If true and she was not supposed to be in the car, that changes things to a degree. Still a careless method of assassination unless you give zero shits about collateral damage. I don't know what would be "legitimate" or not in this case.
Let me put it this way, if I was a Cabinet Member, even if I had nothing to do with war stuff, like Secretary of Labor or Education or something, and the US declared war on some other country, I would want my kids and other family to get Secret Service protection. '
The biggest story that everyone is missing from any analysis here is how were they able to pull this one?
I can only imagine this was an inside job, or if it was outside they had someone DEEP inside, like top level in the security forces.
If it was Ukraine don't expect Russia to admit it, it would be too embarassing.
My guess - and it's only a guess, nothing more than speculation, is this is either a pissed off oligarch or opposition forces showing how deep they can get, how close they can get to Putin.
