Are you just assuming every brand or company that makes hypodermic needles or MRI machines would suddenly become part of the government?

Pray tell. What percentage of medical advances and innovation come from countries with socialized Healthcare?

Why do you think this is?

The private industry has failed us on this issue. Life and death plus profit motive is clearly a poor match for any thinking person.
America spends more per capita in GOVERNMENT dollars on healthcare than every nation but norway.

Something like 40% of Americans are on a publically funded insurance plan.

The insurance industry itself is one of the most regulated of any industry in the nation, and the AMA is essentially a government-protected cartel that restricts the supply of doctors.

We do not have free market healthcare. Saying so is to ignore basic facts about our system.

Furthermore, health insurance profits are not even top 25 of most profitable industries in America.

individual bankruptcies compared to other wealthy nations?

FWIW, the data that shows medical costs being a huge cause of bankruptcies have been debunked.

Surprising that an "intellectual" like yourself isn't up to date on the most modern iterations of the research.

LINK

Previous estimates (done by elizabeth warren while at harvard, lol) pegged that 50% of all bankruptcies in America are caused by medical debt. The correct anyswer, using more statistically robust methods, is 4%. Bankruptcy trends since the Obamacare exchanges become available do not point to any causal decrease in bankruptcies.

Our divided government prevents us from committing to smart programs that make sense in both healthcare and education. We have a party that's entire platform is predicated on proving programs fail. Given that we swing in 4 to 12 year increments are you actually surprised that the self fulfilling prophecy comes true? Other countries make it work in the absence of anti-government fundamentalists

Can we get how many of them support superstring theory?

Because they have just about as much knowledge of that.

Don't laugh.....

I am reading a Halo (video game) novel. It's actually an incredibly interesting saga and the good people on the gaming board told me it was the only set of halo novels worth reading. Basically sets up the entire history of the halo universe. Greg Bear is the author.....he is well known for science fiction novels.

It really isn't a kids set of books at all.

I wonder if you changed the name from SINGLE-Payer to Government Run Healthcare what the numbers would be.

No we wouldn’t. You mentioned mri machines a few posts ago. In 1997 I was living in Canada - the wait in my province for an MRI was 14 weeks. You know why? At that time the country of Canada had less MRI machines then Pittsburgh. Entire country less than Pittsburgh.

If we bought equipment at the rates of the socialized countries - innovation is dead. No point in innovating if you have so few customers.
