I'm against this, but the large health insurance companies are also so fricking worthless, that it is bound to happen.

Both of those gave additional things, if you will, to a very small group of the population. They didn't change the way the majority of the population did things. Single payer would change the way everyone does something in order to appease a small percentage of people. And would be disastrous for everyone else.
