Well of course you don’t because I’m sure Christianity upsets you. The OP is right and I know this because I’ve been where is he at before. I have the lost the feeling he has right now because I got away from staying plugged in and reading the Bible. I’m still a believer 100%, I just don’t have that undeniable peace he has right now that can only be found through Christ. I envy him right now because when you are in the place he’s in nothing really bothers you and you have total peace. Having a relationship with God is like any other relationship, you have to work it in order for it to work.

The prodigal son right here! Just head back home my friend, he’s waiting. Praying for you brother!

Don’t put your faith and hope in that friend. That’s why it’s about a personal relationship with Jesus. Nobody else can fulfill you no matter how much they care.

I have been an atheist for at least all of my adult life and here's what I have:

1. I have a respectable job that contributes to society.

2. I have never been in trouble with the law beyond a few speeding tickets.

3. I have never lost control with alcohol or drugs. In fact, I have never touched either.

4. I am disciplined enough to stay in good physical shape for my age.

5. I am financially disciplined and never have any major problems.

6. I get along well with others.

7. I have looked upon my mother's face in a casket knowing it's the last time I will ever see it in this life or any other. As hard as that was, I can cope without the crutch of believing in immortality in some spiritual realm.

8. I know one day I will die and my consciousness will cease, but in the meantime I do a lot of fulfilling things. I travel around the world and am awestruck by the beauty I get to see and the capacity to understand it somewhat and know my place in it.

I have no need for deities. I'm perfectly happy and capable as I am. I don't have a grand testimony because I have never been stupid enough to hit rock bottom or find anything I can't handle through sheer mental toughness.

Clearly the ants found Jesus. No other explanation.

This ^^^^ is an example of extreme faith. I can see how people rest easier having faith they won’t be accountable for their lives.

Accountable for what? I swear some Christians are downright giddy about the prospect of their enemies supposedly roasting in Hell for eternity.

A lot of hardcore Christians remind me of "#6" in this scene of The Devil's Advocate:

You refer another person who cares about your eternal soul as the enemy? Christians have one enemy, evil. According to the scripture even people who commit evil and wicked deeds are to be loved......I’ll admit, I’m still working on that commitment to “love your neighbor as yourself”. It’s difficult for most people to love another person who you know has committed unspeakable acts/sin. Well, I’m rambling a bit but I’m not your enemy friend.

But I also warn of congregations that just resemble nightclubs and places of fun as most of those are on the other side of the fence.

Can you point me to some of these?
Specifically.
Seems more my speed.

Fair enough. Without weeding through scripture to defend my faith, I will say that my faith, my conscience, tells me that my Church is the bride of Christ and its where I can go to feed my soul and gain the free gift of the Lord's grace.
I crave to go to this place where I can receive what I know to be the true body of Christ(John 6). The Holy Spirit leads me to this place, I do not go on my own. Isn't that a beautiful thing? Or no, because you don't understand it?
We have something like 30,000 different denominations today. They all cannot be right, huh? Or maybe they all can be in their own way. I don't know, and neither do you... we all shall find out one day.

You called out the faith of a billion people, so I responded. Peace be with you

Amen. Keep working at your faith and continue to be full! It’s a good feeling that doesn’t need explaining, arguing, or proving. You and other followers know the truth.

You speak as if you have all the answers in life...you don't. Nobody does. However I know who has answered all of my life though...Jesus.

You mentioned looking at your Mom in her casket, knowing in your mind that you would never see her again period, that saddens me for you. I too looked at my Mom in her casket in 2017. Big difference is that I know, in my heart, I will see her again. Death hurts, but it has no sting as a believer looking down on another believer. All your accomplishments, nor future accomplishments, will never supplant what a believer has to take comfort in, in so many realms of life.

I'm sure you'll probably read my post and dismiss it offhandedly. But I pray at some point you humble yourself and seek something more than globetrotting this world has to offer. Jesus doesn't hide from those who seek him. He found my OP brother, he will find you if you look. I wish you the best.

There are some thing that science cannot explain yet.

Yet is the operative word you left out there duderino.

Many miracles of the past have been explained by natural processes as our understanding of the cosmos and the world has advanced.

The “god gene” theory agrees with this assertion in a very general sense. A predisposition to belief in some sort of mystical or spiritual world DOES seem to have provided an evolutionary advantage in the past.

But that predisposition need not be limited to ONE god or pantheon, and it is not yet clear whether that “hole” can be filled with something else... such as perhaps secularism.

#350 upvote, my Brother.

With Belief comes Faith...and the Hope therein. Don't think that Joe Burrow and Gang did not BELIEVE that they could be National Champs; and it is that belief and hope that lends to the necessary work and sacrifice that will pay off bigly.

Jesus 'Second Coming' is here; sad to say that the Vision therein will be born of great suffering and travail. Like the Good Book relates to childbirth. No matter...because if you/we/Jesus's Gospel is true...then...FOREVER, is a long time to enjoy the "fruits of the Spirit".

That said...you are 'honey mooning'; the hard work to come will be challenging. God speed.

PS...Politics is driven by Morality; Religion - in various forms - is the original basis for Morality. The Board Admins smile on honest Religious/Political discourse. Thank them.

True.

But I have seen zero compelling evidence for any form of the supernatural. Until I have good reason to believe that deities exist - or Bigfoot, ghosts, Nessie, aliens, etc. - I shall apply due skepticism in all cases.

Big difference is that I know, in my heart, I will see her again

Just a moment ago you said you no one has all the answers. Now you say you "know" you will see your mother again.

I would rather have a sober perspective that's painful than a comforting one based on unfounded nonsense from thousands of years ago.

Unlike most people in the world, my position is not the same as my parents or culture, and I settled into it as a young adult. I wasn't indoctrinated into it.

I'm a lifelong Alabamian who's an atheist. Hard to label me closed-minded, especially since I have sweeping skepticism of all things supernatural - not just deities.

It is possible to have saved people in any denomination provided that the way to faith is biblical and genuine. But we also can't just say that because we don't know which way is closest that they are all correct or that we shouldn't try to figure it out. My concern with Catholicism is that it is so far removed from true faith as described in the Old and New testament. There are massive errors taught in that system and at what point do the teachings muddy the waters so that salvation is removed? It's a serious thought to ponder.

Obviously I could never tell anyone that they won't make it to heaven because of a denomination, but I can quote Romans:1 that lists all the lifestyles of individuals who will NOT inherit eternal life. Dont misunderstand me though as I only want to point these things out in love and to help people see these mistakes before our time is up. Anyway, God bless.
