So then the price will never go down. We'll onshore it, pay American wages, and you can choose between a $600 Chinese grinder with $1000 in tariffs or a $1600 American-made one. Winning!

That’s not how it works. Walmart did this back in the 90s. Other stores have too.

1. Undercut competitors
2. Run competitors out of business
3. Slowly raise prices to a point just below competitors coming back.

Amazon is one of the only Walmart competitors.

Chinese are doing this to us now. That $600 grinder probably cost $5-10 to make in China. It’s marked up to a price where American companies don’t try to compete giving them a monopoly.

You think not being able to afford a niche coffee grinder is suffering?

And you are obviously under the impression that the GHEY is not, by definition, an extinction outcome...

So?

When you sell a house do you sell it for the cost of the land and construction materials, do you sell it based on what you paid for it plus a "fair" profit margin, or do you sell it for what someone else is willing to pay for it?

That's because this is a repurposed Democrat mindset. Tariffs will not bring prices down. Like Flats said, the tariffs would have to be permanent for American manufacturing to compete in these markets. Otherwise people will revert right back to buying foreign. The government forcing you to pay more is uncompetitive and goes against the free market. The government should not be telling me who I can buy from.

I’m one of those people who still makes coffee at home, but I’m still using a 20 year old Mr. Coffee. If it ever breaks, I’ll get a cheap, American made replacement.

Coffee grinders aren't going to be the only thing affected by this, by a long shot. Maybe when it hits the things you want to buy you can pay your Patriot Tariffs with a smile.

ETA: hell there's a thread on the OT right now asking why community coffee prices went up. Want to guess what we don't produce in the US?

Trump saved them from paying $700 for a Chinese coffee grinder that is worth maybe $50.
