Always thought it would make sense to have no size limit and you can’t cull anything Especially red snapper and deep water fish with swim bladders. Makes zero sense to be pull a fish up knowing it’s going to die and not be able to keep it because it’s undersized

I know someone in early days of limits whose whole boat got ticketed for undersized
4 people 70ish in box but about 20 (mostly dead) 11” fish on deck in boat - were fishing st Mary’s point right near us. Green jeans watching - lazy frickers were in hooking little ones and just leaving them in boat

There are tools that send them back to depth and release now.
Not so sure increasing size limit is going to get the desired results, we already have a bait problem in BL. Mullet are almost nonexistent and crab landing are cratering. Dredging eliminates any vertical reef structure, hard to hide from predators on a flat bottom.

It’s happening most of the guides are pushing 15 12”. I think that’s what it will be. Could be as early as March.

I kind of agree about the size limit thing. I think I’d rather see someone release a 20” trout over a 13” trout.

15 no size minimum would be good with me and of them 15 no more than 5 over 20"

When I go trout fishing I want to catch a limit. A 15 fish limit should help. I am all for it.

It's looking like WLF is going to push for license changes again this year too. I doubt they ruffle feathers by dropping the trout limits at the same time of year they request an increase or restructure of the license fees.

I caught 2 trout that would have been legal at a 15 inch limit this year in 8 trips, and threw back no less than average of 15 fish less than 12 inches in those trips.
I think you already know where I'm going with that.

I think people will change the way they fish if they want to catch bigger trout. If you go to Texas, Mississippi, or even big lake I don’t think you’ll see the really successful fishermen throwing 60 count live shrimp or tiny soft plastics at schools of tiny fish.

You would be surprised on big lake. Watch people throw live shrimps under the birds all day

The guides would go broke in SE La if size limit was 15”.
12 1/16” trout are their bread and butter
Or 11 7/8”

Exactly. Go to the beaches in the summer and a 2 man limit will consist of maybe a handful over 15". You'd be telling me to throw back that many trout? What would be the mortality rate?

Of course they are, less fuel, less bait, less time for them.....more $$$$$$$. Maybe they should self impose lower limits or stop keeping the guides fish. These guys are out there every day catching and keeping far more than most recreationals. It’s crazy to see the amount of redfish some of these guys are posting on a day to day basis.

A descender. We have to carry one when in 60' or more.
If you don't have one it's a tix.

Would love to only keep clients limit of fish and most guides feel the same. Cleaning 45-60 trout and 15-20 reds is a pia.

I hate this. How’s about you put green jeans out and actually enforce the law?
Limits I don’t care about. It’s rare we go out and come back with limits per person. It just doesn’t happen that often. So 15 is fine.
