Boykins

Ducks, geese, doves. Quail, woodcock, rabbits, squirrels and the have an odd knack for flushing hogs and bears

They guard our house like a pack of wolves

Got a 5 month old Vizsla pup.

Family dog; but, she is certainly showing some instincts. She’s quick to lock in on ducks and rabbits.

Black labs..... all rescued from abused and neglected situations.

Not a hunter.

I had a GSP that had 2 first place ribbons from a Vizsla club's trial. Vizsla are indeed great family and hunting dogs though.

Lab- Yes, hunts. More to the point sits in duck and goose blinds and makes snide comments about my wingshooting, decoy placement, boat driving and generally my character in general. Does go get everything I shoot but always has some smart assed comment like "didn't think I was ever going to get out of the blind today" or "next time maybe aim a little better so I don't need a passport to go retrieve it". She is mean that way....

2 legit ones i believe. dakota sky and sudden valley. Mine has passed her NAVHDA NA and UT test already. I’ll get her hips checked when she turns 2 and probably have a litter or 2 then shut her down like i did with my Pudelpointer.

Labrador - Female, Black.

5th female lab. Had friends over the years that had males and they just couldn't control them very well. Females listen.

English Springer Spaniel - field bred.

Mostly ducks (wood ducks primarily), and dove. She's perfect for the areas where I duck hunt as she is a little smaller than a Lab. I can fit her in a small kayak and get in tight duck holes where others can't go. She does okay on more open water hunts, but a lab would be much better in that situation. However 90% of the time her size makes her much more advantageous given the flooded timber I hunt. Plenty of drive in her and super birdy.

Plus, she's excellent with my young children. A fantastic dog all around.

Two Kemmer curs that I squirrel hunt with. Thought about seeing if they'd track wounded deer but I shock them for running deer.

What made you go with the Slovakian Rough Hair vs some of the older versatiles? When I looked at them the newness and various problems with the breed that they haven’t worked out yet scared me away.

not gonna lie the fact that they are rare and beautiful always helps.
I love my pudelpointer but there was too much breeding going on and i wanted to try something different.

The breeder I got her from also breeds pudelpointers. The difference they said was larger affinity for water and better nose. I also believe they are a little slower to mature. she stuck a lot closer to me than the PP in year 1. She’ll Range now. Also Great w kids and babies.
I’m not sure of problems w the breed you’re talking about. Just do your homework and make sure you look at parents and pedigree etc..

I've got a 15 year old Black Mouth Cur that used to run the woods with me. He'd lope along behind the 4 wheeler for miles. One time we pulled up to a feeder and there were four does. Shortly after we pulled up, Jesse made up the distance and got to us, saw the deer, launched like he was completely fresh, picked out a doe, ran her down and bayed her. I called him off and she got around him and he just kinda ran along with her for a couple hundred yards nipping at her arse.

He was a shitty squirrel dog but still the greatest dog I've ever had and I'm already in mourning over him dying soon. Might be my last dog.

I have two female goldens - one 12 year old (Koa) and one 5 month old puppy (June). The 12 year old was one of the best duck dogs I've ever been around in her prime and an absolute joy around the house. She's had a couple of pretty serious injuries and she's not deaf/arthritic, so now she just hangs around and sleeps. Here are a couple of photos of her over the years:

The 5 month old is coming along pretty well and she's really smart. Here are some photos of her.

Bluetick/lab mix. She hunts miller cans and I’ve been training her on deer tracking. Wasn’t a long run, and she had no idea what a deer looked like, but she found her one just now. First track was a success!
