re: Annual Trout Trip - Grand Isle

Saw some folks catching some hammers in front of Elmer’s today in the waves. I would get some live shrimp and croakers and fish Elmer’s island. Try to find some decent water.

Fish the shrimp under a cork and free line the croakers.

The article was primarily written about his SpaceX IPO and I thought the perspective on his net worth was interesting.

Elon Musk net worth perspective

Posted by Jeebus on 6/2/26 at 10:21 pm
Since 1995 Musk has amassed $970 billion dollars. To put it into perspective, the median family household in America was $83,730. That family would have to work 11 million years to reach $970 billion.

$970B in 35 years is $59,492 a minute, $3.6 million an hour, $602 million per week, $2.6 billion a month

This is all out of a WSJ article.

re: Tuna Charters out of Alabama

Not sure if he is still running charters but Bill Staff on the Seaspray out of Alabama used to fish on the Louisiana side 15 or so years ago during the spring and would come in after his 3 day trips absolutely loaded with tuna, wahoo, and amberjack. He ran a 65 or 70 Resmondo

Saw him one afternoon with the bbq pit going, flying kites live baiting tuna while we were on a center console. Like damn, I wish I was on that boat.

I say all that to say the guy definitely knows how to fish if he isn’t retired

I went last week with Mexican Gulf just 3 fisherman on board and caught our 6 and were back at the dock around noon.

I believe you will do well. Good luck!

Out of Grand isle on opening weekend if the weather is nice there are that many boats on most rigs and known wrecks. They get fished out by the end of the season.
I’m a recreational fisherman and I believe with the evolution of ipilot trolling motors, strike line charts, and having 5-8 boats on every rig and pipeline crossing from 5 to 40 miles out while killing 10 snapper per fisherman to keep 4 is definitely putting a sizable dent in the population.

I bought a Stoeger M3020 and it has not cycled some 3” duck hunting rounds a few hunts so far this season (1st season I use it). The price point is enticing but if I could do it again I’d pay the extra couple hundred bucks and get an M2 or A300

I shoot Grim Reaper mechanicals and killed numerous hogs and deer with them. The ones I have lost was because of terrible shot placement and not the broad head imo

re: Venice Tuna Trip Question

I understand your frustration. I just never been on a
charter where the captain let customers hook the fish using live bait for tuna. Maybe when the fishing is on fire but when it’s slow the deckhand and captain will work the reels until a fish is hooked using live baits.
