A lot of good review on vortex scopes. Especially the Crossfire II

What do y’all think of them for bottomland hardwood deer hunting as opposed to open country. 50-150 yard shots?

Lifetime warranty and reasonable prices but wonder how the glass is, light gathering, field of view.

I'd expect it to be on the lower end of optic quality, but if you're looking at 100-150 yard shots maximum in good light scenarios then it might suit your needs. I wouldn't expect the glass to be anything close to higher tier optics though, especially in low light situations. Checkout Burris and Athlon scopes in that price range too.

Vortex makes good glass for their pricepoint with a great warranty.

The crossfire II is their lowest rung but for the price point it isn't bad. It was my first step up above super cheap glass and I loved it. The biggest knock I would have is low light conditions but that is where you really get what you pay for. Depending upon what you've been using it could be a huge step up.

had one, recoil on a 30-06 caused it to lose zero. shitty glass, shitty optics. Sold it with my other two vortex scopes as a package deal on ebay.

The bottom tier stuff is trash IMO. The Leupold VX 3HD line is a few hundreds more for same type of magnification and Obj and worlds better.

Vortex is an American-owned company that sells riflescopes which are made in Asia.

Razor HD scopes are manufactured in Japan and considered very nice glass by PRS shooters.
If you can afford any Razor HD products you won't be disapointed.
Vipers and Diamondback scopes are made in Philippines. Decent scopes for the money.
Crossfire scopes are produced in China as the glass and erector system is horrible compared to similar low-end Burris and Leupold scopes.

Light gathering and FOV is pretty bad on the lower priced optics. Their cheap Chinese made binoculars can lead to eye fatigue and headaches because the glass does not have the same coatings as higher quality optics that use Schott glass.

Vortex has a great warranty because they're made using cheap labor and inferior parts. Break it, and they send you a new one. Just like everything else, you get what you pay for when it comes to optics and glass.

Buy what you want, just research various brands and look through several scopes (preferably outside) before buying.

I'd look at Sig Whiskey if you are trying to stay in the price point of the Crossfire line.

I have several Vortex scopes that I like very much but IIRC the better glass scopes also come with christmas tree reticles, adjustable objectives, front focal plane and adjustable turrets. Just a little more complication than I like for an aim and shoot woodland hunting scope. They may have added some things as I haven't looked at their line up in a couple years.

Do not let the price fool you; the Crossfire II is a fine scope. Tons of eye relief and great clarity. You will not be disappointed.

Had one on my .35 Whelen. I would not recommend the Crossfire. Had to re zero it twice. Got rid of it. Would not hold zero.

For budget lines if swampfox optics has something that works for you they have very good glass for the money. Vortex is OK, some stuff is better than others. I think swampfox has a higher floor and ceiling as far as quality. Both warranties are good.

It’s easy for us to spend your money, but $500 will buy you a solid scope. Whether you’re hunting in the woods or fields, you need quality glass in low light conditions.

I put a diamondback on my remington 7400 this summer. MidwayUSA has them for half off consistently. Easy to site in and has held zero (30-06). Not sure if you can get a better glass for $200

I was given one and I have come to like it. I added a bubble level and a sun shroud. I use it up to 400yds with no problem.

I have a lower end one on a 30-30 lever action and I swear mine lost zero too.

I thought I got it zeroed, then completely missed a deer shooting offhand at 50 yards. Thought I just sucked but when I went to the range on a bench rest, it completely missed the target at 50 yards.

This is something that doesn’t get mentioned enough. I have two vortex scopes and knock on wood no issues with them.
The first time one of them loses zero I will get rid of them and never use them again. May sound harsh but clarity, features and cost are irrelevant if and when you miss a deer.
I have several leupolds one that’s over 25yrs old and they have never lost zero. I have the utmost confidence in them from that regard.

Razor, Viper and some of the Diamond backs have quality glass and built great.

Crossfires are China or Korean made cant remember. But it's a low quality tube and glass just isnt great at all
