Deer in high wind - smoked hog
So has anyone had any luck hunting in strong wind? Temp is supposed to drop from 70 at noon to 47 by 6pm. Wind going to drop from 30 ish to about 13. Raining like hell right now but supposed to stop within the hour....

re: Deep Fried Brisket? - smoked hog
Bone isn't the issue, connective tissue is. The loin is notorious for its lack of connective tissue and being a lightly worked muscle making it extremely tender and well suited for fast hot cooking. Brisket is full of connective tissue. It requires bringing the temp above 140 and allowing it to st...

re: Duck calling assistance - smoked hog
Let me preface this by saying that I'm a horrible caller who has had the opportunity to hunt with several great callers over the years. 1. Listen to what a duck sounds like. It isn't what you are used to hearing on contest stage. Most of the time 3-6 quacks and wait. 2. Less is more, call at t...

re: Found All The Geese - smoked hog
We have a field that we are having to run the geese off of at least twice a day. Have had thousands of specks for several weeks now. I'll get buzzed by ducks while deer hunting several times per hunt. ...

[link=(https://flic.kr/p/Z2QK9w)]My stalker[/link] I suck at posting pics on phone. Took this real quick the first time I saw him in the field. He got much closer but by that time I was contemplating shooting him with something beside phone....

Anyone ever been chased by a deer. - smoked hog
Was just climbing out of my blind when I saw a small 8pt standing at the woodland. Started walking away like I didn't notice him but after 100 yards or so curiosity got the better of me and I turned to see he had closed the gap. Started walking backwards and he took off after me closing the gap to a...

re: National Park Service proposing raising entrance fee to $70 at 17 parks - Do you support? - smoked hog
I was in Yellowstone and the Tetons in June and back in the Tetons again in September. I can honestly say the park pass was one of the cheapest parts of the trip. $200 for a 7 day foreign pass would generate a ton extra though. ...
larry289
You had 4 kids on the equivalent salary of 60K. I don't know if you had income from mom or if she had childcare duties but that is not terrible. If you struggled with providing for children early on maybe you should have waited. ...

re: Pic in OP How do you keep an 8yo quiet and still in the stand. Update with first deer. - smoked hog
Bit of both. Most 8 year olds aren't 4'9" and 95#. That being said that was one tiny arse deer. Next one has to be 7 or better or a doe, but first deer should probably be tiny. Gives you something to build on....
