I recently purchased a new truck, I need a cover put on the back. I previously had the, I think the ARE brand that you simply lift it up on my last two trucks They don’t make that anymore. There’s a plastic cover that I’m not sure about. I know you’re not supposed to ride with any of those types up, but if I had to carry something taller and strapped my cover down to it in the past, I had no problem on either truck that I had for total of 26 years combined. They said the new plastic ones, the brackets are a lot weaker and probably would give me problems if I did that with the new plastic lift covers

I’m considering the flip covers and was recommended the Realtruck Undercover Ultraflex by two different dealers. I asked them both about leakage, and they said there’s only one week spot near the tailgate in the corners where very little water may drip. They said there’s a five year warranty of it not leaking at all across the top or they’ll replace it.

I just spoke to a friend who has a different brand of fliptop back ( think it’s Bakflip mx4) that’s less than a year old, and he said that his leaks not bad, but enough where he would not leave like a soft duffel bag in the back of his truck unless it was wrapped in something waterproof because his leaks across the seems.

Does anybody have the realtruck cover that I mentioned above? Can you let me know your thoughts on yours? Thanks.

I just went through this process. Real truck recently bought bakflip, so the ones you mentioned are now the same. I had bakflip on my last two trucks and both started leaking about 2 years in. I would consider retrax instead.

I just went with Diamondback cover that flips back. More expensive but more rugged and doesn’t seem to have any leaking issues

I have a roll n lock and have been happy with it. I did not want the flip kind either.

I’m not saying this to sound rich, but money really wasn’t a deciding factor on what type to get

Is the Retrax the sliding top? If so, that’s not really an option for me because I don’t want to lose the space in the back of my truck.

It rolls into a box mounted at the front of the bed. Takes up maybe a foot sq.
I have a Revolver 4xs that I installed in 2021. Still going strong but apparently their product recently is less than stellar. Good luck.

I saw an ad recently about a new Peragon cover that can fold from both ends, and can slide so you can access most of the bed without having to fold up the entire cover. Don't have any experience with Peragon but seemed like a good concept.

That's why I got the Backflip, I already have a 5' bed and want to be able to take the whole thing out if I need to so I didn't want a toolbox or retractable. I don't know if "leaks" is the right word, because even if you got a perfect seal most pickup beds will leak through the tailgate seam or other holes, but there can typically be wet spots (not puddles) around the front and rear after a hard rain. I didn't fool with the drain tubes it came with so some of that is probably on me. I just got it for the cover part, as I carry stuff back there in a pvc duffle bag that's waterproof anyway.

I have seen people on forums get the flip style very nearly leak proof by adding foam, etc, I just never bothered with it. It rained pretty hard here last night, and I just went and looked and if there was any water that leaked in it's already evaporated.

I have a RollnLock as well. I have had one on my last 3 trucks. I don’t care much for the flip kinds and generally like to keep my ice chest and golf clubs secure and out of site.

All I'll add is I went from a flip type to a camper shell and don't think I'd go back.

Bakflip mx4 if installed correctly works great. Will have small leakage at corners by tailgate but not bad enough that I worry about leaving things back there. My golf bag stays back there most of the time and no issues with getting wet

I'll probably go with this when I either get a new truck or when the soft roll up I have on my current truck finally takes a shite and dies.

I had an Undercover for 5 years. If mounted correctly rarely ever a leak. The panel closest to the tailgate could get a little off center from time to time and let a few drops in, but easy to adjust.

I put the Undercover Ultraflex on my son’s Tacoma and it has done well. It does leak a little near tailgate but not terrible.

I put a Roll n Lock on my new GMC Sierra and would not go back to a flip cover. It is pretty water tight unless I’m parked on a downhill slope and I may see a little dampness on the front of bed (but rare).

I have a retrax on my current truck and find that it leaks worse than the bakflip on my previous truck. I think they all leak

Second the bakflip mx4. I am on my second cover for my truck the first one was damaged by a tree limb falling on it. Both have been good and pretty much leakproof. I will say that the first one I removed entirely to move a gun safe and it did leak more after that so I may not have it in the exact right spot. But otherwise I have been very happy
