Not on my Tundra, but pretty much hate the one on the wife's vehicle. I learned to drive with mirrors and when you go into reverse in hers, the mirrors tilt down so you can see nothing, usually does that when the back up came is covered in dust or dew, and the sun is shining in it.

Grinds my gears.

Any of you with factory backup/rear view cameras:

- how useful are they?
- is their field of view good enough for trailer hook-up?

I'm thinking about installing a retrofit kit on my Silverado. Thanks for the info.
My truck does not have one. When hooking up the boat, I can do it without having to adjust maybe 1 out of 7 times.

My wife's Explorer has one. I can back to trailer without adjusting 9 of 10 times. Every once in a while, I don't back far enough.

Next truck will have one.

possibly the worst feature I have ever heard of!

Also, I have had one situation where I couldn't see out of my backup camera...had frost on it.

It's for seeing curbs and the lines in parking spaces. I haven't seen a car where you can't turn that feature off

I'll add a little fuel to the fire. On new german cars, the monitors show an actual 360° view of the car using cameras in the front and back

Just bought a new truck and backup camera was one of the main features I wanted. Say what you want about you don't need it, but I wish I had every minute of my life back that I spent getting in and out the truck trying to hook up a trailer!

Unnecessary in a pickup IMO

I disagree. I recently purchased my first truck with one and didn't realize how nice it would be. I can consistently back up to a trailer and stick it first time and not have to do the back and forth shuffle to get it lined up. It is also very useful in backing down the driveway. I will never own another truck without one.

The first thing I did when I drove my mother's new jetta was turn that stupid shite off.

Only time I read mine was when I ran out of fuel the first time. The stupid dash thingy went from 60 to 35 miles left in 2 minutes, and then the truck cut out. A 7000lb truck is not easy to push

On GMs you can turn 'em off in the menu.

Cameras are boss for trailer hooking up.

I have one and fricking love it. I didn't go out hunting for one but the truck had it anyways. It gets used everyday and has saved my bumper because of it.

All these manly men love to use toilet paper. People have wiped their asses with other things for thousands of years, why yall being bitches?

This. I don't have to run to the back and check to see if I am close enough. Ever. Call me smart or call me lazy. I will answer to both.

I have a backup camera in my truck and like it alot. It's funny that so many people here act like they are the dumbest thing ever created. I have yet to have anyone get in my truck and tell me that the camera is a stupid idea and useless. They all seem to like it. Some of them even said they want to get one after seeing mine.

FWIW- Mine is the big screen on the dash. I like that better than the one in the rearview mirror, mainly because I can see more detail in the bigger screen.

As long as they stay optional I don't care. I'd rather spend that 500 or whatever it is on something like lockers or tow mirrors or something I would use more often.

I like mine. Makes it easy as can be to back up to a trailer hitch. Or watch hot women peeing behind the truck.

My tahoe has one with the screen in the rearview mirror, love it. Can back up to my boats with the ball under the coupler every time. Camera is angled down and provides a surpringly wide view.

Seems like the people that have them love them, and the people who hate on them haven't ever had them

There's your answer right there
