Sitting by myself this morning in a box in pasture watching a woodbine. Probably not the best spot, but had my only pig here last night. Hoping I can situate him.

37° slight north puff of air.

It’s been very potent for us in an AR for smaller shooters. I’d hunt with it myself in a heartbeat.

I have a little 2-7 Vortex on it and it balances great.
What if he approaches you and asks the same thing?

6.5 Grendel with my youngest.

Sitting in a box at the convergence of hardwoods, mowed field and. Grown up pasture with trees.

Seen two rack bucks this morning including the best on the place. A little too far for him to get steady on.

That’s hilarious! I can imagine.

Hunted in Richland Parish this morning, boy 60°, calm and humid. Both boys hunting with 6.5s. Only saw one deer, oldest made short work of him about 6:15.

Just use my pocket knife most of the time, sometimes a $20 Mora. Great knives.

Buy yourself whatever kinda knife you want, and spend as much as you want, but do you know how to sharpen SV-90 or Magnacut?

What I mean is that there are some great quality knives that are less expensive.

I have several Benchmades and when I use something other than my Benchmade 940 to clean or butcher a deer, its My $20 Mora with a carbon steel blade.
The fact that you’re even asking this shows that you don’t understand raising cattle.

It would make more sense for you to buy the calf from him once it’s fed out and have it butchered or buy one for yourself raising yourself and take it to Butcher.

In either case you’re likely to find out that the cheapest way to acquire beef is to drive to Sam’s club or Costco pick out the cut and pay at the register.

Concordia or Catahoula…unsure

Concordia.

I grew up hunting the same way in Concordia Parish. Horseback and Waker Hounds, along with Blue and Red tick and Black and Tans.

Saw more than a few piled up from the back of a horse when I was a boy.

I too can remember the last hunts on horses with dogs and knew I was witnessing the end of something. ....and the weather was always really crappy on that last weekend it seemed. Sleet and rain and ice.
I bought one years ago in the Brigadier model, heavy as crap, great grip, really smooth shooter, stupid reliable.

Carry it? Never, it rides in the truck console, or my safe, but a great shooter.

You need it.

Good gracious that's asinine!

I grew up running deer with Walkers. If you can shoot, use an open sighted rifle or low power scope (or red dot, not an option 35 years ago).

If you can't shoot, or if its thick, roll with buckshot. I prefer #1.

If he's running you swing through and lead him a little, if he's really stretched, a little more. Follow through.

I've seen a pile of them rolled up with a 30-30 Winchester.

I don't know your friend, and maybe I swallowed the hook, but PLANNING to miss most of your shots and hoping to hit one is no way to hunt.

Maybe a Morakniv with a carbon blade for $16.

This is a great suggestion. That said, he doesn’t need a “skinning knife”. Get him a decent pocket knife with a carbon steel blade he can sharpen.

No need for a special knife.
You stand next to me in the grocery store, why not train next to me at the range?

"OR"????? No real estate agent is going to be able to give you an opinion on access.

You are absolutely correct. My wording was sloppy. A GOOD agent will tell you that you need a good title attorney.

Not trying to practice law here.

OP, TigerDeacon is giving you really sound advice.
You need a knowledgeable attorney and/or a GOOD real estate agent. I know they are hated here, but a good rural land agent will give you solid advice.

Looks like you are buying land that has no access, might have 20% adverse possession and may be enrolled in a conservation easement.
