I haven’t posted much on the OB the past few years since my twins were born. But reading through this thread has brought back a lot of fond memories for me and the OB. Just seeing some familiar faces post in here makes me smile. It’s insane that a message board can actually create some true friendships in real life.
to you all...and again to you, Fishfighter’s daughter.

Thanks for sharing. Prayers to you and your family. Losing an immediate family member is very difficult thing to deal with. This brings tears to my eyes. I only ever saw posts from your father on here, but he seemed like good salt of the earth country folk which I really appreciate. I also really enjoyed reading/watching his cabin build. So sorry for yalls loss.

Guys, I know this is long, I just wanted to honor him! He was amazing person! He loved you guys. You were a place for him to air his frustrations and share in his victories. I know I don’t have him anymore. I can’t call him and ask him advice on random things (because trust me he knew pretty much everything). I’m lost, my mom is lost...he is no longer hurting.
I can echo these same thoughts since I lost my Pop a few weeks ago. Tough times but it will get better...slowly but surely.
Sounds like an amazing man. Always enjoyed reading his posts. Kudos to you on your post.. describes perfectly the kind of man I had in my head reading his posts. In time you'll be able to look back and laugh at his posts and discussions/times you spent and laugh and smile about it. No lie...it will take a while to get there probably but I'm just finding out that it is part of the process of grieving.
Sounds like he raised a hell of a woman and instilled in her a passion of the outdoors that we all love and share on this board.
Prayers and my sincerest condolences on you and your families loss.
But just like my Pops, just know your father is free of the pain he lived with all these years.(And the hunting and fishing up there is even better than we can possibly imagine.)

I'm glad to know he was able to whip heart disease because for a while he was on here every night posting like he only had seconds to live. But he had a great spirit and sense of humor which is what kept him going.

Sorry for your loss
I only met him once at a fundraiser, but he seemed like a really good dude. My condolences to you and your family.

I want say, first, I am so very sorry for your loss. The loss of a parent is indescribable.
I lost my dad a few years ago, also to ALS. He was just a few years older than your dad. He was diagnosed and lived just under a year after the diagnosis. I watched a man who loved to work get to where he couldn't even walk. I watched a man who would talk to anyone about anything lose his voice. I watched a man who loved to eat lose his ability to eat anything. And I watched one of the strongest men I ever knew wither away to nothing.
ALS is a terrible disease, and I know from your dad's posts that your family has had unbelievable struggles with it. It is my greatest hope that we one day see this disease cured, and that it will no longer be a death sentence.
I know exactly how you feel when you say he is out of pain, and that it is a great relief. I was there with my Pops. It is one of the strangest feelings I have ever had. Seeing him suffer was the hardest thing I've ever done.
I miss him to this day, but I know it would be selfish of me to want him back as he was at the end. I do say often that if I could have him back as he was before ALS got its hold, I would take it in a heartbeat. That isn't meant to be, though.
I truly pray that you, his wife and the family are all at peace. It is painful, and the grief may seem insurmountable, but it does get better. I'm sorry, again, for your loss.

RIP fishfighter....and GOD be with you and your family
Not gonna lie there was many a young boys that got early educations at the Tarpon Rodeo weigh-ins in the old days.
Your dad was a good man no way in hell I'd have let my daughter witness that either.

I just couldn’t understand why I couldn’t go to the docks to watch the weigh ins (lord know I know now!).

I’m sorry for your loss and honestly, it’s a loss to the entire site. Your dad fought like hell and spoke of his health often. I’m sorry your family is going through this but I’m glad to know he’s at peace now. Poor guy. I always felt for him every time he talked about his health. Prayers!
