Never met the man but know his name well on the OB. Beautiful write up on your father and the guy seems to be a true legend.

I had the pleasure of meeting your dad once and always enjoyed his post about the pirogue building. When I saw he was diagnosed with ALS, I thought what else can be thrown at him? He was one heck of fighter.

It sounds like he was a great father that left you with a lot of great memories, that is the best thing we can leave behind when we leave this world.

So sorry for you loss, rest easy Fishfighter.

I had little interaction with your Dad but loved his threads on building the cabin.
I will keep your family in my prayers & hope that you all find peace in that he is no longer in pain.

When I joined TigerDroppings in April 2019 after lurking the site for a few years, my first post on this site was answering a question your Dad had on managing an aquatic weed in the pond on his property. I’ve enjoyed his posts over the past couple years but without doubt the thread on the pirogue build is the finest.

So sorry for your family’s loss, and he will certainly be missed here as well.

RIP Fish fighter

I'm very sorry to hear this news. Your dad was a great guy, but you obviously know that already. To a life well-lived...

fishfightersdaughter,

Your father brought me great joy through his pirogue builds. His boat building threads were among TD's greatest contributions to the internet. I always looked forward to his picture updates. His work and art brought to mind the words of Arthur Ransome:

quote:

The desire to build a boat is the desire of youth, unwilling yet to accept the idea of a final resting-place. It is for that reason, perhaps, that, when it comes, the desire to build a boat is one of those that cannot be resisted. It begins as a little cloud on a serene horizon. It ends by covering the whole sky, so that you can think of nothing else. You must build to regain your freedom. And always you comfort yourself with the thought that yours will be the perfect boat, the boat that you may search the harbors of the world for and not find.

His pirogues looked perfect. I am sorry for your loss.

Sincerely,
TulaneLSU

I did not know he was a Marine. He is for sure guarding heaven's streets. I remember talking to him at EJW's auction and enjoyed reading his posts on here. He will be missed.

RIP and Semper Fi Fishfigher.

What a beautiful tribute to your Dad, loved all his posts. He was cheerful through times such that one would never know what he was going through. Prayers to your whole family, and I’m sure he is already catching his limit up above.
