I'm terribly sorry for your loss. I got to meet him and spend the weekend with him in Delacroix years ago. Very awesome man. RIP FishF

Condolences, but I'm gonna have to tell off on your pop now that he's gone.

Prior to the auction we'd talked a lot on here about his CHF and prognosis. Actually, we first interacted on the OT one late arse night and got to chatting. They'd delivered a poor prognosis and told him he only had about 3-4 months to live. After getting more details, I told him that was bullshite and if everything he was telling me was correct and I wasn't missing anything, then they were either full of shite, ignorant or both. I was right and he got another opinion and shite got better. That was well before the auction...maybe a year or two. We'll we chatted even more on the OB here and he was a little down about not being able to "perform" for your mom due to side effects of meds and his doctors told him he could take any of those "magic blue pills" because of xyz. Once again, I got more details and had him send me some info and reviewed some records to make sure I didn't misinform him, but once again they were wrong. They still wouldn't help the man out.

Roll ahead just a bit and the auction came up. I wasn't his physician so I couldn't prescribe him the medicine he wanted, and needed. And we both agreed that worst case...he dies giving it to you mom one last time and that would be the way he'd wanna go anyway. (Sorry, but true...I know it's your parents but your dad was a MAN and and damn fine man and a man should get to make his own damn decisions if the risks are known). Sooooooo....at the auction I met him and your mom and agreed that this man deserved some help and I hooked him up with enough samples...off the book...to enjoy for YEARS!!!!! And they did. That's been our little secret until now and I have his permission to tell off.

So let it be known on the OB, that as of at least 2 years ago, if not sooner, Ol' Fishfighter could still lay the wood as well as any of you young bucks despite the bad heart and other shite. He might've needed a little assistance, but he was still swinging a big arse hammer!! And he died a happy man.
RIP Fish...I told you I couldn't keep a secret forever!!!

ETA-don't understand the downvotes but if the family finds it offensive, that wasn't my intention. I will delete it.

I don’t usually do the “favorite poster” bullshite. But, in this case, you, smack, are my favorite poster.

My mom died of ALS in May. She was an extremely active person, it was unbearable to see that disease take even the most basic activities away from her.

But you are right. The suffering is over. Sending you all my love and good spirits.

Thank you. And I didn't mean to detract from Fish's celebration of his life on here, but him an his pirogue did by chance factor into me and Dad's most recent trip. We've had some positive changes in the last 24 hours that have improved his prognosis. It's still critical, but with the prayers we have seen as much improvement as we could hope for reversing a 2plus week trend of nothing but a downhill slide. I'm gonna start posting on the OB thread and speaking of the auction, when Jason's (Josey Wales) dad was thanking me for my donation, we chatted and he asked me to promise him one thing. I did but I haven't fully kept it. He asked me to enjoy each day, don't get too caught up in work, business and money and to live each day as if I was going to end up in his son's shoes. I full well intended to, but life happened and I dropped off the OB board and let work and business keep me out of the woods and off the water like I used to. Someone posted on here awhile back about that auction and it triggered in me the memory of that promise. I acted on it and if all of that hadn't happened and I didn't make Jason's dad that promise. Plus it triggered a little quilt about not using that pirogue like I planned, I don't think I would've hunted with dad that day. I was tired, busy and had my plate full. He called and asked cause he didn't want to go alone and it just all came together. I knew I had to go and something in my head said, "you never know what tomorrow brings". We had a great hunt, killed two limit of mallards finished off with gaddies and a couple of woodies by 7:30am. Dad cooked us a helluva pot of duck gumbo that night and we popped a bottle of some 25 yo glemorangie I'd gotten him for Christmas and finally got to smoke our cigars I'd gotten us when my grandson and his great grandson was born 9-10-20. If it ends up being our last day together, I don't think I could've scripted it better. And I don't know that without that auction, Jason's dad's words, and that pirogue fish built that it would've happened. So thank you guys new and old. And the OB is my family, especially you guys from the golden days of the OB. I still have my original OB huggies btw. But the 10 cases of miller lite you guys delivered with the pirogue have been long arse gone. I love you guys and keep us in you prayers as we will for Fish and family.

This is awesome. The night before my father passed away we had plans to attend the dirt track races in Chatham, La. They had late models from all over. As the day went on, our plans were starting to fall apart due to some events happening throughout the day, but sure enough we went to the races, about 30 minutes late, but we were there. The next morning on fathers day, he left us to be with the lord. I believe that there was only one reason our plans wouldnt fall through that day.

There was a shrimp boat being over hauled on 56 heading to the camp named

FF and EJW will always be missed.

Wonderful testimony to your Father; makes a lot of the ugliness in today's world seem more bearable, and worth the struggle. Don't stop sharing your story with others.

God speed to you and yours.

Godspeed fishfighter! I never saw a negative post from him and he seemed like a genuinely good person.
