If you could go back to the time right out of college and work for or start your own company related to the outdoors, what would it be? We will be starting a year long business plan project in my entrepreneurship class and I am looking for ideas that would be fun to pursue. So far, my top choices are

1. Fishing/ Hunting lodge on the coast
2. Boat Marina/ Yacht Club
3. Some sort of product related to hunting/ fishing.

I would grow a long beard, make duck calls out of my garage, and hunting videos to stimulate sales.

Fishing down in Costa Rica or something like that.

Make sure to include pics of the ladies.

Turn Cocodrie into the fishing haven it should have been from the start. Closer to BR and Lafayette than either Fourchon/Grand Isle or even Venice. The fishing is fantastic, the run to the gulf is short, and still a bunch of property for charters to rent out.

Rent, repair and customize Kayaks somewhere near Chalmette. It’s by far the fastest growing segment in fishing these days. The customization has taken a dramatic turn to the extremes. I could see it making a buck if you did it right.

A well run marina looks to be a gold mind. The upper scale marina on grand isle is run by idiots but they have a product people with disposable income want so they are making money like crazy. If they just had a little more sense they might could be happy too.

Did anyone buy Sweetwater in Delacroix? Is it still for sale?

I’d buy land, Become and realtor, and flip hunting properties.

3000k acres in the miss/la delta. I would have a lodge with duck and deer hunting and have some crawfish ponds and catfish ponds. I would cater to Clinets that wanted to bring their kids to experience the kind of hunt club atmosphere they had and kill clean and cook what was killed.
I would donate 5-10 hunts a year to make a wish and disabled veterans for tax purposes.
It would be my dream job..

You left out run nets on the river to make ends meet and invest in next to worthless land that floods almost yearly but suddenly becomes lucrative to own when 2 major pipelines route through it and it gets managed to become duck hunting property.

After seeing what the Googan Squad did I'd buy a couple of gopros and document all the fishing trips we took from like 2010-2017. The guys are worth millions all because they documented their casual fishing trips and racked up million of views, they're living the easiest of lives

I would fly to China and secure a manufacturer of rotomolded coolers. Then I would design, ever so slightly different than YETI, and sell with price point below YETI. My business model would be straight-to-consumer, without middle-men like Tesla.

I agree with the: get a GoPro and go establish yourself on YouTube/TicTok/FB... Get someone to sponsor you and get a jangle in your pocket before you launch whatever it is you settle in to. Best of Luck!

I would look at a plan to buy an existing hunting/fishing lodge and add recreational activities like guided rafting and backpacking trip. Offer services to shuttle backpackers for the ones that don’t want guided trips.

Several Alaska hunting lodges will be closing the next 5 years I expect. Many have had the same older clientele for years.

That’s pretty much what they did. Yeti knocked off another company. I can’t remember the name. I just nave imagined people would pay $400 for a cooler, then put a sticker on their truck to show what type of cooler they had. Or, pay $30 for a hat to advertise for the cooler company.
