Prayers for you and your family. Never an easy thing with pets, just love her the best you can while you can.

Oh man, so sorry for that outcome. We had one die from cancer, and had about 4 weeks with her after the diagnosis. Took lots of pictures, ate lots of good food. Best of luck.

despite modern medicine and high quality pet healthcare now a days, swamp cancer is a very very formidable foe.

through my dog networks.. retrievers, pointers and versatiles - I am aware of about 8 dogs getting it in the past couple of years.....only one surviving.

my heart aches for you and yours....

Glass notes that a serologic survey of hunting and retrieving dogs from at-risk areas showed that 15 to 20 percent of these animals have antibodies to Pythium, indicating previous exposure and successful destruction of the fungus. While no such serologic survey has been done in horses, Glass suspects similar findings, noting that it is "just not that easy for all horses to become infected with Pythium species since many more horses are exposed than become ill, and all the factors required for successful infection are not yet known."

Damnit man, I'm sorry.

I'll keep y'all in my prayers. Maybe the medicine will help.

So sorry Goomba. Cook her a steak one night and give her lots of human food. When it's time, you will know. Bring her to vet with a quilt and ask the doc for a few minutes. Lay the quilt out and sit on the floor with Darci and thank her for the good times.

Dr. Woodward at LSU is awesome. She is still trying to find a way to save Darci or at least prolong her life beyond a few weeks. Thanks again to everyone. Hopefully I can post a positive update in the near future.

Very sorry to hear this about your dog. Hopefully you will get a lot more time with her than they are telling you. I've finally broken down and have my first lab coming to us from a litter in 6 weeks so I can understand the connection there. Are there any signs of what to look for if a dog looks like it is getting infected with this swamp cancer? Good luck to your family.

Need to take to LSU. They see a lot of Pythium cases and that is a very likely cause. It's acts more like cancer than just an infection. Need to highly consider amputation before it gets to a place you can't amputate. Dogs can live great lives with 3 legs.

damn man, I hate to hear that. Nothing worse than the waiting to see if your dog will be fine or not.

My Terrier Elliot ate some Rat poison today. I got to him and poured Peroxide into his throat and got him to puke it all up. He is in a three day hold at a Vet hospital in Metairie now.

It's rough, I read this hoping for the happy ending. Damn I hope my meeting with the vet tomorrow goes better than this.
Spoil your dog and enjoy every minute with it.
