My Lab May Die Due to Fungus (pics posted) (Updated 9-22-2016)

My almost-1-year-old female lab had a fungus that developed rapidly on her right paw. The vet removed it 6 weeks ago, but now my dog has an even larger mass on her right buttock that my vet cannot remove because the surgery must be performed by a specialist.
The vet thinks that my dog may have picked up the fungus while swimming in the pond behind our house, but no other dogs in our neighborhood (some of which also swim in that same pond) have it.
The vet has given us three options: (1) amputate her right leg, (2) send her to a vet specialist at LSU to see if it has spread to other areas and/or can they surgically remove it, or (3) put her down.
Has anyone else had this fungal issue with their dog?

Go to LSU. The people over there can work wonders. They've done a lot of great things for dogs and horses that I've seen over the years. Plus, the good looking girls make the experience that much better
Eta: My dog used to go to the vet at Acadian Animal Clinic in St Gabriel. Really nice lady and her husband specializes in animal surgery. Give her a call also

If you truly want to get it figured out and willing to pay what it may cost, LSU is hands down where she needs to be brought

Years back my Lab got the fungal infection that dogs can get from the dirt here. Supposedly something to do with the area being part of the MS flood area long ago. There was an oral medication for it that was going to be several thousand dollars. As this was when I was young and had no money, I thought he was doomed. Buddy got the same meds in Mexico for a couple hundred bucks and my buddy lived a long and happy life. This thing started on his paw as well and spread before we got it under control. There was never talk of cutting it off. I would get another opinion.

LSU is your best option.
It sounds uncomely to say this (it is what it is) but you need to be prepared for a hellaciously large bill. Don't think that because it is a vet school that you will get students doing work at a discount.
Conversely, you're also not going to get discounted treatment. And, after bringing the family cat there, I have zero hesitation in recommending them. (And I feel like they have people there that will be straight with you - won't do the surgery if they don't feel that it will work.)
If there's anywhere in the nation that can treat your dog, then it's LSU.
Hope she gets through this.

Go to LSU, they are the best in this type of situation. 100.00 to evaluate & they will give you price of what they can do. They have financing through a local credit union which offers 0% 12 months, similar to Care Credit for people.
Went to LSU as a last resort for our dog (not fungus), our vet said LSU would charge 6k, LSU charged 2500.00.

Here are some pics. The strange thing is her behavior is normal and she does not appear to be in any pain. The vet has her on 2 anti-fungal prescription meds. Thanks for everyone's advice.

What specific fungal infection is it the name? Or do they know?

Our vet doesn't know and says she has never seen it. Sent it to a lab and they don't know what it is. When she had the one on her arm removed, the lab said it MIGHT be aspergillus.

That's what I thought culturing a fungal infection is not easy it takes time go see someone else like wick said.

She started yesterday on Terbinafine HCL 250mg and Ketoconazole 200mg.
