Gov. Landry Strikes again!

Our 'anti-conservationist' Governor Landry vetoed HB 688, which would have designated the Atlantic tarpon as a Louisiana saltwater gamefish. The bill had passed both chambers of the Louisiana Legislature unanimously before being vetoed.
It would have classified tarpon as a saltwater game fish, placing it into the same management category as species like red drum and billfish.
Supporters argued this was a necessary first step toward long-term conservation and would have prohibited commercial harvest, while not imposing new recreational bag limits, seasons, or reporting requirements by itself.
the bill would have aligned Louisiana with every other Gulf Coast state by recognizing tarpon as a game fish and discouraging commercial exploitation.
One thing's for sure, he's protecting his donors = MENHADEN INDUSTRY
How can anyone in SE Louisiana vote for this POS.

The pogey industry needs to get the frick out of state waters.
Its straight up rape and pillage of the resource.

Is anyone targeting tarpon commercially? Why?

The Pogey boats don't want to get bashed over the head with by-catch of tarpon like they do for redfish and speckled trout.

Correct. The bill had passed both chambers of the Louisiana Legislature unanimously before being vetoed.
Landry's agenda is very transparent.

That’s a great pic of the lil demigod.

It's pretty arrogant to go against the will of the people like that. He is saying that he knows better than everyone else or he is corrupt. I say corrupt

You would think that since they’re a highly migratory fish that the feds would be investigating this heavily bc of this carnage these vessels unleash on our beloved coast line.
Someone posted a picture on Facebook last year of a pogey boat operating right by Chandeleur with a huge dead tarpon in its net. I was visibly angry after that and almost threw my phone at the wall.
But then again…how in the hell…does a business get away with destroying an environment…and then selling that fish they catch…into fish meal…that feeds imported shrimp over seas that outcompetes our local shrimpers….
It’s honestly insidious and despicable.

Spot on description of Louisiana politics.

wtf
quote:
Gov. Landry rejected the bill, stating that it was a "solution in search of a problem" that could lead to unnecessary regulatory hurdles for recreational anglers, as tarpon are already widely treated as a catch-and-release sport fish

Are they going to override the veto?

Now let's all make sure to vote for his hand selected candidate for Senate...

That dude is destroying Louisiana wildlife. It's very sad

I would have assumed that with a unanimous vote the over ride was built-in
