You would think that since they’re a highly migratory fish that the feds would be investigating this heavily bc of this carnage these vessels unleash on our beloved coast line.
Someone posted a picture on Facebook last year of a pogey boat operating right by Chandeleur with a huge dead tarpon in its net. I was visibly angry after that and almost threw my phone at the wall.
But then again…how in the hell…does a business get away with destroying an environment…and then selling that fish they catch…into fish meal…that feeds imported shrimp over seas that outcompetes our local shrimpers….
It’s honestly insidious and despicable.

I know it is pricey but a st croix medium heavy with a shimano 4000D spooled with 30 lb braid is one of the nicest rods i have used inshore.
I use it with live or artificial shrimp under a cork or carolina rig live shrimp on bottom.
Their slogan "best rods on earth" is a factual statement!

re: Longest (time wise) you’re willing to travel to make a day (fishing) trip?
Posted by freshtigerbait on 6/8/26 at 8:25 pm to RichJ
I’ll do it to places if it’s absolutely worth it.
Ask me if I’ll make a 3 hour day trip to Venice to fish or Cameron to fish.
Venice any time and without question

If this is a legitimate operation that would be really interesting.
And if it gets traction I hope they show the rest of the nation how these pogey boats get away with so much carnage in our beloved waters and puts pressure on all of this

Hopedale marina or campos marina
I normally take the back levee spoil canal to get there. Be damn sure to stay in the middle of the channel markers when you get to Lake Machias. It can be very deceiving
