re: Do you really get nervous when you're about to shoot a deer?
Posted by freshtigerbait on 12/6/25 at 8:59 pm to homemadeshine
This guy is rage baiting but I’m gonna play into it like ol boy did bc we got a passion for deer hunting.
Imagine you sit in a stand all morning. You’re freezing cold, you’re bored, you hear leaves crunch but it’s from squirrels. You realize that you’ve woken up super early to go be at peace and not deal with bs at work, bills, ole lady telling you to do stuff at the house, kids stuff, etc.
Then one comes out. It’s within range. And you decided that you’re going to take this animals life to provide for yourself and others.
You start to think about how much scouting, practice shooting your bow, cardio you do to stay in shape to hunt, e-scouting, I can go on and on and on. Your mind is flooded with adrenaline for this exact moment. Countless amounts of man hours dedicated to your passion just for this exact moment.
Ask yourself if you would shake in this situation if you were us.
I have shot at 2 deer on public land this year and missed one due to shaking so much and adrenaline flooding my mind. I have been doing this my entire life. And I still will shake until the day I die.

As what shexter said you just have to walk a little further and you’ll be good.
This is my first season hunting public and I enjoy it aside from hiking 5+ miles round trip.
There are lots of good hunting opportunities on public land in LA. I’m speaking from deer hunting experience there but most of those guys are pretty respectful of each other.
What exactly do you plan on hunting?

Hopefully those bears acquire a taste for the pigs there and not the deer. I have never seen so many pigs in my life in that area.

They are everywhere in west Feliciana
In the hills they’re there. Don’t know too much about them in the bottomlands but I’m sure they’re there.

OB,
Looking for a good pop up blind that can be used for 2 people for deer hunting. One that is portable as well.
Recommendations are appreciated.
Thanks.

Not too bad at all.
I was expecting a lot more people today but it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be.
Tomorrow might be a lot worst

Good to hear.
I’m sure you learn a lot from them I.e. their travel routes.
Like I said, I’m not against it, however it did make my time as a still hunter hunting land that was bordered by dog hunters miserable. Especially on the opener of bow season and I’d hear dogs being ran.
That said, It was best I got out of there and did my still hunting elsewhere and let the dog hunters do their dog hunting there. Voila

I edited my post originally. But why do those clubs not run dogs?

Man calm your arse down.
I’m just speaking from what I’ve experienced. Did it even cross your mind that my lease was likely MUCH different from yours? And that my neighboring property owners were MUCH different from yours? Did you even think about how often some people run them and kill WAY too many deer with dogs which ultimately ruins it for still hunters?
Like I said, I’m speaking from my own experience and there’s no doubt that yours was different from mine and it so happened to work out in your favor and I’m happy that it did for you but every rack buck I had on camera was killed by neighbors running dogs.
I’m not against it but what I have experienced has done nothing but make it a miserable experience as a still hunter. And no. I did not hunt over a trough of bait.
