I cast and reel with right hand for both baitcast and spinning. I know that's "wrong" to some, but I just can't use my left had for a damn thing.

Guess I am odd. I cast with my right and then switch hands and reel with my right.

This is pretty typical and what I do. While I’ve had many fish take my bait as soon as it hits the water, I’ve never lost one of those fish because I had to switch hands after a cast.

Spinning:cast right. Reel right. Same for baitcasters.

Cast right reel left unless I’m offshore then I use the stupid reels with the crank on the right. Am I the only one who thinks it makes no sense that you hold the pole with tour non dominant hand when you’re fighting a big offshore pole. You can fight better with the pole in your dominant hand. It doesn’t take much strength or coordination to reel.

I’m right handed and cast right, reel left. Learned that way as a kid. Now I think its just easier having my rod in my right hand to when fighting fish or for better control while working lures

I’m all kinds of screwed up

Cast right with everything.

Bait casting reel right
Spinning reel left
Fly fishing fresh reel is left (even though rarely used)
Fly fishing salt reel is right.

Cast right, reel left with both (I’m right handed).

I’ve never understood why people who cast right/reel left with a spinning reel would change that process for a baitcaster.

I can cast with either hand but I have to reel with my right hand. My left hand is pretty much useless! lol If I have to use a spinning reel with the handle on the left I find myself holding the handle stationary and moving the pole in the circular motion! Yes I’m retarded!

Ignorant is watching a man who chose to turn a hobby into work and saying "that's how I'm going to do it".

Cast right, reel right. Reeling left just feels awkward to me.

I just want to know how fighting a fish on a pole in your non-dominant hand works? Not to mention doing all the rod action to work your bait/lures correctly.

Just seems odd to me to do all that with your non-dominant arm/hand.

As for the topic, I'm right handed. Cast right, reel left.

I mainly learned to do this because there is alot of current where I fish and the boat can be turning around.

Why would the casting arm be any different with the boat turning around, unless one of your arms was put on backwards and you had 180* swivel of your head?

I have done it that way my entire life, so it feels perfectly natural and works just fine. I'm sure most everyone else that does it that way would say the same.

I fish in a kayak style boat where it isn’t easy to turn the seat and thus not easy to reposition one’s body to cast to the right side with the right hand when the boat turns left.

You should let go of whatever nut you have against me man. Not healthy
