Black-Bellied Whistling duck season. Will there be any around to hunt?

I live on a lake in central Louisiana and we have a lot of BBWD during the summer. Two weeks ago I counted 41 in my backyard eating the bird seed off the ground under my bird feeder. The number has steadily gone down since then and now there is 3-5.
Will there be any left around in my area for the special season in October?

From what I understand they stay local like a wood duck. I would feed the piss out of your backyard and keep them interested

And like a wood duck they can be here one day and gone tomorrow.
We have a bunch of BBWDs around our lease SE of Lake Charles.
Will they be there after teal season? I doubt it.
I will still be there to check it out.

The ones in my neighborhood (SW Arkansas) are here year round.

They’re dwindling fast around False River too. The season should coincide with teal not squirrel.

Depends on the area They’ve all in the rice fields right now, but won’t be there in October

There are literally thousands of them in Audubon Park lagoon in New Orleans for a while then they all leave.

Has anyone ever eaten any? Just curious as what to expect, of if anyone has any recipes for them?
We typically try to eat what we kill, and somewhat try to justify another species in the freezer, lol…

They are very good to eat. They also breed throughout the summer. There are still babies around and that is why they didn’t open it during teal season

They actually have a drumstick, go ahead and dress the entire bird and go with the recipe from Hackberry rod & gun club…Guy’s pot roasted ducks. You won’t be disappointed.

you kinda of have to "sschhhhhhhheeee" sound but throw any decoys out and just call teal calls or mallard calls or let them know you are there lol. they sit in our teal spread every year just talking to us like live decoys. They also have come lit in our spread right after shooting some teal that came through, like almost right after lol. I had two watching me on dry ground topping a blind last year just hanging out not even worried about me.
But October is a little late for LA, just my opinion.

They peak in summer here. I haven't seen many lately, but a few are hanging around
