Grand Isle surf fishing

Posted by JRinNOLA on 4/27/25 at 5:17 pm
It’s that time of year. Weather is starting to cooperate. Has anyone been surf fishing in Grand Isle yet ? How has the fishing been ? Does Bridgeside have live shrimp ?
I also wanted to add that I had a little over $1000 in material everything included.
About 10 years ago I built a pacific dory style skiff with Spira International plans. I really enjoyed building it. Frames were 1 x 4 untreated pine sheeted with 1/2 inch plywood. ( regular untreated ) Outside fiberglassed and inside painted with eurathane. There is one 2 x 4 going down the center of the boat stem to stern. Deck screws and gorilla glue (poly eurathane base ) built it after Katrina got my other boat. Wanted to take the kids fishing and crabbing but a decent sized flat was thousands and still had low sides. I have hauled many dripping wet crab traps over the side of the boat and got caught in the rain a few times. Still going strong. I wish I knew how to post pictures.

I shoot 50 cal round balls. 3 for 3. Where is everyone finding black powder these days ? I am running low and heard they don’t make it in Louisiana anymore ?
3 bucks , biggest was an 8 point. I didn’t shoot a deer last year so this year I wasn’t letting anything walk. I hunt private land in Cat Island swamp.

I left my door to my new truck open for about 10 minutes and a rea got in it. I was able to get him with some sticky traps with peanut butter for bait.
Just shop at Costco. 2 dozen eggs for $8.00 I bought a dozen at Rouses for $11.00 before I went to Costco.

Raccoons LOVE marshmallows and nothing else ( cats and dogs ) will not touch them except for the occasional possum. I caught 17 coons in N.O. They were getting in my attic.

On overnight dive trips offshore with the bbq grill on. Doing some night fishing . We would fillet those smaller black tip sharks right out of the water , cut some lines on the fillets , a little butter and Tony’s and right on the grill skin on. Talk about good
Easy. Watch someone do it one time and you are good to go. Skin and gut. Remove tenderloins and backstraps. Then front shoulders and rear legs. Then neck meat. All in a icechest with the drain plug open far a few days. Cut up backstraps into smaller pieces and vacuum seal them and tenderloins. Remove all the meat off 2 front shoulders. I cut that up in cubes for crock pot meals. There is a YouTube video of how to seperate the roasts on the rear legs. Top round , bottom round , eye of round , sirloin & rump roasts. And save the shanks for osso bucco. Vacuum seal everything and put it in your freezer. Takes me 2 evenings after work to do all this.

I am considering buying a Grit workhorse saddle. Does anyone hunt from one. What do you think of it ?

I am still shooting patched round balls with my Thompson Center 50 caliber smoke pole with iron sights. It is very an accurate gun. I am 3 for 3 so far and for 2 out of 3 shots I had to shoot off of my left shoulder because of deers location. I have a 50 caliber pistol for a quick follow up kill shot if needed.

Great story. Congratulations to you both. That is what it’s all about ??
Save those shanks. If you haven’t made uso buco with deer shanks you are missing out. I threw away a lot of shanks until I learned about this.

Wear hunters orange or wait until after hunting season.
