We hunt private land in Cat Island and north of Cat Island. Saw alot of rut activity, bucks chasing and on the move around December 30. I hunted with 3 others January 5-7. No one saw a deer. Maybe rut was early this year ?

Shocked we didn’t see a single deer Monday- Wednesday. 4 hunters made 5 hunts and didn’t see a deer. Afternoon temperatures in the 70s. Area 6 in St. Francisville where rut is topically first 2 weeks of January. I’m thinking it was due to the unusual hot weather.

It can be very hard to get away from all the other hunters. Also the roads are going to be sloppy or unbelievably dusty so bring everything you need so you don’t have to drive around too much. I went 3 times in the last 5 years. I am done with Tensas.

I absolutely love fly fishing for bream. I use a white popping bug. I didn’t get out much this summer. I will have to double down this summer to make up for it.

I use the ratchet straps but also add a 6” piece of metal pipe hanger strap wrapped around each side of the stand and run a deck screw through it into the tree. Also keeps the stand from moving around.

Anyone have any experience duck hunting at White Lake ? I was invited to duck hunt there mid November. Any information appreciated.

I have always fished for redfish and trout with a spinning reel, but it seems a lot of people are using bait casters these days. What is a good all-around bait caster for saltwater fishing?

In mid June I was surf fishing on Elmer’s Island with my nephew. He fished artificial and I had live shrimp. I caught a limit of keepers and he couldn’t catch a fish. He was switching baits a lot but didn’t catch a thing until he switched to live shrimp.

Tasco scopes. Been around for ever. Very inexpensive and work fine. I paid less than $100.00 for the 3-9 x 40 on my Remington 270. Works great.

Can anyone give me some feedback on marker 54 shrimp and ? I recently bought some but haven’t tried them out yet. Any positive reports ?

I limited out on Friday the 11th. Live shrimp on Elmer’s island at first light. Bite was over by 8:00 am.

I picked a bunch of chanterelle mushrooms. How does everyone like to cook them?

A few vehicles of spear fishermen all heading down to Venice to go diving. Enclosed trailer full of dive tanks and gear. Half way down the trailer passed up the van that was pulling it but thankfully came to stop in the ditch between the highways. Dumb arse didn’t put a pad lock or bolt to lock it on. Could have been real bad if that trailer crossed to the other side and hit someone.

I was an auto mechanic at a Chrysler Jeep dealer in New Orleans for many years. Louisiana Dealer Services is great insurance. They hardly ever declined to cover any work that was needed to repair a vehicle. Great insurance.
