Thanks all. Sounds like I will have to look into 7-08 reduced recoil. I do like the idea of it being able to grow with her. Just quickly looking at Wikipedia it looks like ballistics for a normal load and bullet are close to as good as 30-06?

When I was a kid I feared the noise more than the recoil. Come to think about it, this is still true as an adult. I will never own anything with a muzzle brake.

Yeah, I'm anti-muzzle brake for that reason. Thanks.

While there are some great suggestions posted already, especially the 7-08 with reduced recoil ammo, another very viable option is the 7.62x39 caliber in a youth bolt rifle. While not as common in bolt rifles as other calibers, there are several manuf that make them for not too much money. Howa makes a good one and CZ makes a great one but is a little more expensive. However, with the right bullets and reasonable shot placement will do everything you need to do out to 200 yds. Very little recoil and you can buy practice ammo for $5 per box of 20 so can afford to practice as much as you want without breaking the bank or the shoulder. About 4 years ago I hunted with one a good bit to test it out. 7 shots 7 dead animals including a very nice 9 pt.

Another option to consider is the 25-06. My son starting shooting this at 11 with no recoil issues. We use 117 grain Hornady whitetail rounds. I’ve shot 2 animals with it and they travelled a combined 15 yards. Internal damage was pretty massive on both.

The one I bought was a weatberby vanguard. The 2 stage trigger is pretty awesome and I think it helps prevent flinching as well.

I guess Ive shot with electronic hearing protection the past 15 years and never really noticed difference.

Precision Rifle Blog did a test and muzzle brakes are perceived to be about twice as loud as a bare muzzle while behind the gun. It really isnt twice as loud, but perception is reality. Its also funny that the "loudest" brakes help contain the most recoil.

Doesnt really change my opinion. I love brakes and suppressors.

Oh and check out how much suppressors help.

TY. Yeah, been looking into suppressors myself for Hog Hunting. SOB's tearing up our pastures. We have officially declared war on them. Freezers are full of Wild Pork, a shame to leave them lay there, but that's what has been happening lately.

Ah hell, if you’re going that route, just grab a .444 handi rifle.

Just sold my 7mm-08 and it was super nice and accurate. I’ve killed goats in west Texas out to 500 yards with it. The 6.5 Creedmoor is just a more flashy round, but the 7mm-08 stacks up pretty darn good against it.
