Abandoned house torn down. Family of trash pandas living in it. Four little ones survived. They are not yet weened. We are bottle feeding one of them. My guess is about four weeks old.
Debating on keeping one as a pet. I have a huge pen in my backyard and I have no problem with keeping it in my house.

Anyone have one as a pet? Any advice? Are there any legal ramifications?

I have a nice crockpot but it is too small to cook or make a hat out of.

I’ve known two people that had female raccoons for pets, they were good pets.
I’ve been told the males get mean as hell.

keep them outside. Hand feed them everyday and they will stay out of the trash.

I would never allow them into my house

A lot of times they get mean as they get older. If this happens either find somebody to take it or euthanize it. If you let it go it'll just end up torn apart by dogs or something. Some folks in one of my friend's neighborhood raised one and let it go once it got mean. It was raised with dogs so it didn't know it was supposed to be afraid of them. It only lasted a week or two in the wild before it went into the wrong backyard.

My dad knew someone who had a pet coon. Said the thing chewed holes through the walls and ceilings so it could go from room to room

if you read My Side of the Mountain as a kid and wanted a falcon, read "Rascal"

I had a male I raised from before his eyes were open. Bout the coolest critter you can have.

As soon as his balls dropped he went from being friendly to barely tolerating me and then eventually he left.

Hope Rascal is still out there chasing bitches and eating someone’s chickens.

If he happened to find his way to my chicken yard.... he's no longer "out there"... he's crossed over and seen the light...

Never kept one as a pet but I did have a wild one come sleep on my patio furniture almost every night and eat old leftovers I'd throw out by the fence.

It was friendly but probably because it ate well and had a comfortable place to sleep.

This guy has been coming to eat most nights for about 3 years now...I call him Rocket...he's missing his front left paw, I assume he got caught in a trap...there are a number of others that come and go as well...I like them coming around, but I doubt I would ever want to have one inside my house...

I raised 2 in my younger days...always with the intention to release in the woods behind our house. Bottle fed to minnows I would catch in the neighbors pond in a bowl of water on the ground...get a little life training in. loved grapes and those big marshmallows.

Eventually built a large cage outside and moved them there. Got to where I would leave the door open longer and longer to let them roam. The female stopped coming back first but you would still see her from time to time at the woods edge. The male came back once and had lost a fight with something and didn't make it.

I always heard they were fine until adulthood. They were certainly something else while I had them.

Not trying to be a buzzkill here but it is illegal to have them as a pet in Alabama. Therefore you cannot have it treated at any vet clinic if something happens their only option is to euthanize it or call the game warden on you.

It's apparently technically illegal to have one as a pet in Louisiana as well...who knew?

Yeah...we called a vet early on asking about feeding recommendations and things and they pretty much said "we can't help you with that".
