What’s your rec for a small 9mm for my wife to have in the house when I travel?

If she wants one just for the house, get a full size like a Glock 17
Small guns are snappy and women don't like shooting them as much.

Bring her to the local range or reputable sporting goods store. Let her handle all the guns and be sure she can rack back the slide. The right gun will the one she’s most comfortable with.

I have a regular size 9. Looking for something to double as a cc and something for her in the house for emergencies

How the hell does someone downvote this?

I wouldn’t go smaller than a Shield or Sig 365 (or similar). A micro 9 won’t be fun to shoot and she’ll be more likely to flinch.

I’ve never had an issue with small or snappy guns. I’ve had my share of compact 9s and a .380 here and there. That being said, she needs to shoot abs get comfortable with what she chooses. Flashback about 15 years or so and I was a young professional travelling for work leaving my young wife home alone. Her dad bought her a lightweight .38 special. She hated it. I bought a Ruger P series 9mm thinking the heavier weight and longer barrel would help. She hated the slide cycling. Said it felt like it was jumping out of her hand. Eventually we found what worked for her.
As a strictly home defense gun, get a 12 gauge. If either of you want to carry it, it’s going to take some trial and error at a range to see what she likes. Mine can handle my XDs fine now. But she still prefers a revolver and I have a larger .38 that she is more comfortable with.

My wife has a Sig 365...perfect for her small hands

Get a .38 revolver and pretend it is a 9mm.
Revolver will go bang whenever the trigger is pulled.
Unless you regularly train to clear failures on a semi auto (and I am guessing she doesn’t or wont), you need a nearly foolproof defense weapon.

Get yourself a CC and leave leave the full size at the house with her.

Glock 43x with shield arms mags. Small enough to comfortably CC, has more grip than the micro CC guns, and holds 16 rounds.

Look at the new Smith and Wesson Shield EZ. It’s made with people in mind who can’t or don’t particularly like to rack the slide of a standard gun. Really nice looking and can rack easily with 2 fingers or minimal effort

If she will keep it at home full time then I'd go with the glock 17 or 19 if the grip isn't too wide for her hands. If the grip is too wide go with the 48 with the shield mags. If she plans on cc then 43x with shield mags. You can also bring her the a range and have her shoot the micro 9s like the 365 and the Hellcat. But those 2 will have a bit more snappy recoil. Which may or may not bother her.

Smith and Wesson Shield EZ.
This. That is what my wife carries. It's so easy to rack. She struggled with others.
