re: Night Fishing Memories
Posted by Coach Yo on 5/5/24 at 8:41 am
Night fishing under a lantern for sac-a-lait on Lake Sam Rayburn makes for many good memories. We had one particular spot at the mouth of a large cove that consistently produced. We’d clean the fish the next morning and fry them late that afternoon. Rinse and repeat. Those were good days....

Years ago, my parents (now both deceased) worked as volunteers one summer in Badlands National Park in SD. My mom worked in the visitors center and my dad worked at what he described as a “wildlife outpost.” They loved it. No pay, but they got free hookups for their RV. Go to the Badlands website fo...

Bussey Brake Guide Recommendation
Posted by Coach Yo on 3/16/24 at 9:21 am
I grew up in SW La. fishing freshwater. Now I live in SE La. and fish almost exclusively saltwater. So, I don’t have the right boat to fish bass on a lake like Bussey. But, I would love to enjoy a good day of bass fishing again. Do any of you know of a good guide for Bussey Brake? If not Bussey, wha...

re: Speck on a smoker. Who has done it?
Posted by Coach Yo on 2/10/24 at 12:51 pm
Many times. Some buddies and I used to have a camp SW of Gueydan. If we had a good speck hunt in the morning, we would put a couple in the smoker early afternoon and keep the temp around 225. We didn’t really monitor internal temp. When the birds were tender, they were done....

I’m at JFK now waiting for my return flight to La. I’ve been attending a conference in NYC since Sunday. It was a great trip. Good food, the city is festive and decorated. Times Square was clean with lots of young families. I didn’t see any homeless in the streets in the Broadway area. ...
re: Red ate trout
Posted by Coach Yo on 11/15/23 at 7:02 pm
Years ago we were fishing the Cameron jetties and ran into a school of small trout. Some were really small barely big enough to take the hook. One of the guys in our party was reeling in one of these really small ones. It was feet from the boat when a monster trout inhales it and takes the hook. My ...
