Man that is terrifying. At least the water is still somewhat warm.

First off I am glad the guys are safe...

Now for a rant...

As a lifelong Venice hunter Venice is just full of stupid right now. While I don't use a duck boat I am not against them when people use their brains. Just over the last two days I saw one duck boat with SEVEN people in it and no running lights. I saw 8 in the river trying to get back after camping loaded down and struggling. Until people start realizing an 18' duck boat with 18" sides is too small for the MS river this shite is going to keep happening. Venice is a rewarding place to hunt but people have got to start putting their lives and safety in front of killing a damn duck. It's just out of hand for many people and what they are trying to do down there right now.

Rant over I feel better.... Well not really I'm in the office not down there.

Not to mention looking at those pictures they were running the WEST side of the river, the UNPROTECTED side! Darwin's law in full effect IMO.

I was thinking that same thing. Not sure why they opted to run on that side.

What about all the Florida fly fishing guides running poling skiffs in the passes? That shite makes me nervous and I've had some tiny skiffs in some big water.

Sometimes I wonder if there is any safe way to fish Pass A Loutre and Delta without running the risk of stuffing the bow into a crew boat wake.

That's the only way, and once you get into Pass a loutre you better know that river or you will be high and dry quick. Last year we pulled 3 people out in one day, and had to leave a fourth because we couldn't get him out. Hunting Pass a Loutre is easily the most dangerous duck hunting.

There again if we could just get some common sense with people. There is no secret about sand bars and Pass A Loutre, if you don't know an area you should research before just charging out into it.

we saw lots of stupidity this weekend. and we had big boats for the gear and made sure the hunting boats weren't loaded down heading up and down river. as far as what side to run, the east side was calm all weekend. People need to learn and use their head, but this will keep happening anyways im sure.

its very rewarding to hunt there but you better know your stuff. we take my bay boat and pull boats usually.

This could all be solved by banning the mud boats. That would weed out those that don't want to work for birds and reward those that do with less pressure and many more birds...

I've been saying those stupid arse boats need to banned for the longest. All they do is tear shite up.

We used to ride to Port Eads in an offshore boat, towing a bay boat, towing a mudboat, towing a ganoe, towing a pirogue. Never had any problems. Banning mudboats would frick up the equation.

Are mudboats not banned on public land? I thought for sure they were banned in Delta

The Federal does not allow air cooled motors, the state still allows them....unfortunately.

They have been banned for a long time on the DNWR (Delta).

They are still legal on pass a loutre WMA though. With that said, the hunting would definitely get better if pass a loutre adopted the Delta's rules and regulations.

I noticed last year it was getting out of hand. They are putting way too much weight in those boats. Factor in wind and crew boat or supply boat waves and you are asking for it.

And they should have been running the east side of the river the whole way like you said but they would still have to cross the river once they get to Venice. Still risky in my opinion. The river was really rough on Sunday.

I wish they would ban them on all public land.
I swear between 8 and 9 sometimes it sounds like a motorcycle rally with everyone running around.

I swear you cry about mud boats more than anyone on here. If you don't like to hear them or be around them, stay home it's that easy.

no, its a pain when you're hunting and you have some fricktards jumping a piece of marsh right behind you flushing up every duck on the reserve.
