In 2015, I lived in Taiwan for a few weeks and got to meet people all over the island.

They were the most kind-hearted and community-oriented individuals I've ever met in my life. At the same time, they had an appreciation for democracy that was truly inspirational.

I wish everyone in the US had an opportunity to spend some time there. It's a fantastic country that deserves greater attention.

Apparently the Olympics doesn’t let Taiwan use its own flag or even anthem when they win gold medals.

Honest question. For events like badminton and table tennis. Do we even send American representatives.

I'm serious. No matter the Olympics, I don't think I've ever seen an American competing in these events, let alone medaling.

I think we have before, when it was hosted in the US (I think the host can enter in every event). Simply put, we don't even begin to measure up to these Asian countries in events like this. They've been training most of their lives to compete at this, while we treat it like a summer camp hobby.

The USA Badminton team consisted of a Men's Doubles team (Phillip and Ryan Chew), a Men's Single (Timothy Lam) and Women's Single (Beiwen Zhang). The Men's Doubles team lost all three matches in group play. Lam lost both his matches in group. Zhang won one game but retired during the second game, losing to Bing Jiao He of China.

I did not see a Women's doubles listed.

For Table Tennis, Women's Singles Juan Liu won 4 matches before losing in the round of 16.

Men's Singles Nikhil Kumar won 2 matches before being eliminated in Round 2

The Women's Doubles team lost in the Round of 16 and the Men's Doubles team is competing in the round of 16 as I write this.

Those poor Chinese athletes should seek asylum, because you can bet your arse the best outcome for them when the return home is a labor camp.
