Subject does not match the details of the thread. Subject mentions shortage of refs, message just bitches about the ref at a game

Just checked his profile and see that he's a politard.

I have watched more than one game get called and that team forfeit because that teams parents were coming out the stands screaming at the refs or umps.

These guys are amateur refs and umps and do it for extra money. They aren’t put through training like the nba or nfl.

Poor calls on the bases will happen. Younger ages don’t have reply lol

People think that by losing a game, it’s like losing the Super Bowl.

I wouldn’t want to deal with the parents either

It's a major problem in Mississippi, but not for the reason you mentioned. It's because the younger generations don't want to deal with shite parents. It's gotten so bad, the state sports association has begun to schedule Wednesday night games for the first time because there aren't enough officials to go around.

OP getting abused

I was at a High School basketball game last week and a parent was ejected for calling the refs the three stooges. They blew a few calls and it seemed knee jerk to me at the time.

After reading all the responses here. Maybe the ref knew to nip it right away or it might get worse.

These shortages are all over from what I hear. Definitely not enough HS football refs here in the panhandle.

If I had to guess it's likely all sports.

We won a close game that put us in the playoffs, opposing parents on their way out were threatening the kids who volunteered to be on the flag crew.
Im walking off the field and one of my ACs is yelling get over here! I run to the far end of the field and ill tell you some of these things these "grownups" were saying to these kids 11-12 yrs old made me question humanity.
One old gentleman was among them and he looked at me and said "One and done, huh, coach?" I looked at him and said "Thats possible, but youre done now, drive safe & have a good day"

A friend of mine's dad was a HS football ref for many years and retired from it several years ago.

From what I understand, the more experience someone has the better games they get and then after so long they get the bigger games that's closer to where they live.. So a 1A game during the regular season doesn't have the same quality of officials as a 5A matchup.

For middle school, isn't that usually college kids or younger people calling those games?

You are going to have two types. The official who is taking a middle school game way to serious because he might be working his way to HS, etc And then the ones who are just trying to make some extra money and just want to get the game over. To make that call its probably a guy trying to work his way up, so he is going to be by the books.

Either way, its middle school. Professional refs make mistakes a lot, what are you expecting for youth/HS?

Well I mean that is the rule… BTW there is a much much bigger shortage of coaching.

Not a hoops guy but I’ve seen that called plenty times , just like illegal participation when players go into field

More than likely too this is a point of emphasis for that league or officials group.

It's an issue here in NC as far as soccer goes. Had a 10 game regular season and had maybe 2 games where we had all 3 refs. Parent and coach a-holes are driving people away.

The age where it’s the worst for coaches and officials is right before HS

I love when the OT leaks into real life and we get posts like this.

That's a tech all day. Tell your daughter to score more points and this won't happen

ETA: Girl made one of the 2 technical free throws, which sent the game to OT. Cheerleaders’ team lost by 2.

crazy how once the real story comes out it changes from barely stepping on the court to this

OP needs to come back and confirm exactly what the cheerleaders did. Did the cheerleaders just step on the court, or did they do backward flips to half court?
