re: Your theory about why so many people are willing to wait at drive-thrus for so long

You are literally driving thru to eat food. Don’t even have to leave car. We Americans created a society that shoves food down throats and chases with GLP-1s and then complain when it’s a whole 10min wait.
Reminds me of my kid complaining when microwaving hot dog took “a whole minute”.
We are spoiled / fat / precocious fricks.

They’re too fat and lazy to walk the 15 feet from their car to the restaurant.

So, you're telling us you like your food cold, right?

It’s people with kids. Before kids I always went in. Now it’s sometimes easier to hit the drive through

Even a frozen pizza takes 18 minutes

Somehow the Slidell location doesn’t have this yet.
They have a double lane drive thru but no mobile thru

People are sheeple. Lazy, stupid fat asses that are too pathetically lazy to park and walk 20 feet to get their poison that they will shove into their fat face while driving like disgusting slobs, all while spilling shite all over there car making it a nasty vehicle full of petrified chicken nuggets below their seat. I hate people.

They’re slaves to the garbage that place serves as food. Garbage food = garbage body

Some drive thrus are single lane and once you're in it, you're stuck.
Might as well wait for the order since you can't get anywhere

This. Only time I go through the drive thru is if I have the kids and they want CFA or Sonic (my MIL got them hooked on Sonic for some reason). Sure as hell ain't eating that garbage myself

Last CFA I went through for mobile order had to sit in regular drive thru. No point ordering ahead and it getting cold.
OP, that line moves fast. All of those vehicles will be served and gone before say, 5 vehicles in line at Popeyes or McD.

McDonald’s CEO said it before - people are not addicted to the fast food, they are addicted to the lifestyle that fast food allows.
You can leave 20 minutes before a teeball game, stop at a fast food place, feed your full family on the way to the destination, and have not been required to do any real extra work.
For high wage hourly employees it is actually more economical to work a little harder for another hour than to go home early and cook.
Overall, it’s basic psychology- people prefer less work at something they don’t desire, and more time doing what they prefer.
Which is also why pre-ordering on an app fails at most places. Pre-ordering at most places (not CFA) only makes their process faster, but the end user still has to follow all the steps and wait on others who didn’t follow the expedited process. If drivers could skip the line and it was actually handed to them quickly, everyone would use the apps except for rare occasions.

Because the fat people that choke that crap down are too lazy to walk inside to order.

Why wait in line? Park, walk in and pick up a bag that's on the little rack, waiting for an uber driver. Go forth and eat.
