I have compiled my own personal Top 10 that I'm sure will be a hit or miss with most of you, so here it goes:

1. George Washington (1732-1799)
2. Ulysses S. Grant (1822-1885)
3. Martin Luther King Jr. (1929-1968)
4. Theodore Roosevelt (1858-1919)
5. Neil Armstrong (1930-2012)
6. Ronald Reagan (1911-2004)
7. Henry Ford (1863-1947)
8. Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865)
9. Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826)
10. Andrew Jackson (1767-1845)

Jefferson is way too low, imo.

No Audie Murphy or Alvin York?
Ben franklin ? Jimmy Doolittle?

Grant #2??? Haha.

7 of 10 are presidents.

Sorry, but while "greatest Americans" leaves a lot of room
For debate as to what it means as well as who should be on the list, your group of ten doesn't appear to have any clear standards or be particularly well thought out.

Eisenhower is a good addition. Any list should include TR.

Yep. MLK hated gays. Trump supports the lgbtq. Obviously he's a better person than MLK.

Dirty Dick was a hell of a sailor but hard to put him in the top ten Americans when he is a felon as a result of defrauding the American government.
