I wish I did.

The thing is.. I wasn't even saying those people were greatest Americans, I was just throwing out names that were not as obvious, that some people might consider.

Take off oprah, and little Richard replace it with Elvis. Richard didnt invent shite.

..I think I need to take a break from TD for a while. I'm starting to just let the piss and vinegar flow without the creativity.

A good choice...

And reminded me how could I have missed Ted Williams. Greatest hitter of all time and in the middle of his career served in the military.

He gave up acting in the midst of his career to serve. Very honorable man whom i greatly admire.

Brought the SEALs out of the dark ages, the 1st SFOD was already doing most of the things Dick used to develop the philosophy of Seal Team Six particularly MOB-6.

There is no doubt he pissed off the government with Red Cell (I have a VHS somewhere of their exploits) and while it may have painted a target on him he still committed the crimes. He was one that got it in his head he was bigger than the law.

If you want to credit the one really behind the US Spec Ops modernization replace Dick with Chargin' Charlie Beckwith.

I would like to add Jonas Salk

He discovered and developed one of the first successful polio vaccines. Did a lot of research and helped changed the medical field in our understanding of viruses. I believe he tried to work on a cure for HIV/AIDS but eventually died.

What qualifies as “great”?

IMO, it is probably a bunch of 18-25 year olds buried around the world. Unfortunately, they stories of greatness were lost through the years.
