Sorry, he played a big part in their mass production. Still a big deal.

I would like to add Jonas Salk
Salk and Norman Borlaug probably belong way, way up there near the top of the list. Borlaug is the GOAT of model Americans.
As far as the number of human beings directly and positively impacted by their work, they - along with maybe Oppenheimer - are clear cut at the top.

If you include Oppenheimer, you should also include Ernest Lawrence. Worked closely with Oppenheimer at Berkeley, won the Nobel for his work on the cyclotron in 1939 and was one of the founders of the "Big Science" movement, especially in terms of securing funding for large projects.
Oppenheimer was a fantastic American. Fiercely patriotic, he would zing his European compatriots at Gottigen and Cambridge about how much better America was than Europe. His story and tragedy is well-known, but Lawrence is overshadowed by Oppenheimer somewhat. The people associated with Oppenheimer from his days at Cambridge, Gottigen, Berkeley and LA is like a who's who of Nobel Prize winners.

Anybody that has GREAT next to Jimmy Carter or Barrack Obama needs a drug test. Both sucked as presidents. I’m ashamed Carter came from Georgia. Swing and a miss here.

1. JB She played Spin the Bottle with me and lost.
2. TN Wonderful Country girl, built like a brick shithouse, let me put my digits in her honey hole
3 DD Older Cheerleader, She was short and tight, taught me about her man in the boat. Was astounding for me to see naked.
4 Cheerleader and in the band. Let me dry hump her to completion.
5 MM Cheerleader, very handy with me.
6 MH Artist, a couple of years older than me, she liked to orally pleasure me while I was driving
7 KM Cheerleader, 69 was her thing she was (probably still is) multi-orgasmic and made me the same.
8 AM We technically deflowered each other, she also said I could PIIHB.
9 AM Same as #8, she was so good that she deserves at least two spots
10 & 10-A A couple of Auburn Women Volleyball players one night. To hell if I remember their names...
I left out a High School Teacher out of respect for her version of the learning process.
Once I became an adult, my list of greatest Americans grew too long to document here.
