i would rather face the grizzly one on one than 5 wolves...one lucky strike with the bat could deter the grizzly. If one or 2 of the wolves got a hold of you its over

I think the point here is "lucky".
You are going to have to get lucky to win either encounter. With the bear, I only need to get lucky once. With the wolves, I need to get lucky 5 times.

i can be arrogant...mostly on here not irl
seriously though a whack to a grizzlies nose gives you a better chance of survival than taking on 5 wolves.

a grizzly on all fours is about as tall as your average man. If it goes to it's hind legs, and it will, good luck getting that bat up there to his nose before it swats you away like a fly with it's paw that is larger than your head.

so in this scenario we are only going against the largest of grizzlies and the average size of wolves?
I would pick a polar bear (bigger and more dangerous than a grizzly) any day of the week over going against 5 wolves. I like my chances against 1 predator more than against 5. No way you can fend off 5 wolves they will surround you

Nah dude. You may not even have to fight the grizzly. Assume a submissive state, or "play dead" as some people put it, and you've got a chance with grizzlies and brown bears. Black bears not so much. But wolves don't play that game. They'll take turns attacking you from BEHIND.
I could put my buddy's 5 beagles on you and you'd scream like a woman. So you certainly ain't living to tell the tale after a wolf pack gets done with you.

Look at the video I posted on the previous page. It's a cane/heavy stick, not bat, but that guy takes multiple full swings on the bear's head as it's mauling the other guy and the bear doesn't even come up for air.

You have zero chance of hurting a bear with a bat or a knife. One good swing at a wolf and you can dislocate their jaw or crush their eye socket.
ETA: They also have less muscle so you have a better chance of causing serious trauma to their body.
