One of my best friends is/was a lineman. He's done well for himself.
Worked a shite ton of hours in his 20s and 30s to get there. He pulled down close to 250k in some of his best years. He told me could've moved out to Cali to rebuild infrastructure after the fires and really made bank. He took a paycut and moved up to management after he had kids though.
If your boy isn't afraid to work he can set himself up for a comfortable life.
