I am saying it’s statistically highly improbable

Actually given the number of users here it is a statistical certainty that multiple users know someone who died of covid.

Actually, it is even a statistical certainty that multiple people registered on this site have died of covid. Would you like to see the math?

Are you being serious right now? We're talking about thousands of users on this site. You should not be shocked at all that a lot of them know someone who died of covid.

You are wasting your time.

TBH this thread is more useful to me in determining how concerned/careful I should be than the news media. I feel like I haven’t heard much about what it’s like to have this shite in the media. Like no interviews of people who had it. Actually I heard one on NPR a while back.

Yep they are

The statistical analysis of cases and deaths are what they are. People posting on a message board is fishing story fluff

The two people I know of who died were in their 70s.. Well, I think.. Either way, that person was in a nursing home and wasn't well before and if they were not 70 they were in their late 60s.

There are 204,438 members on this site. Let's say... IDK 15% of them are active.. That would be roughly 37,000 people.. Just looking through this thread so far I would say about 40 people have replied saying they know someone.

And you are assuming white people doesn't know any of the black people who had it.

Biggest thing wife tells me is the vast majority of patients say they couldn’t taste anything.

Exactly.. Like when some dude tells people "I work with numbers, this isn't possible".

But you clearly have not performed even the first bit of statistical analysis on the number of cases and deaths.

I know one for certain.

He’s 55, a nurse and had comorbidities. It kicked his arse pretty good, but he’s on the road to recovery.

I know it’s never stopped you before, but you have no idea what you’re talking about when it comes to statistics.

Long time lurker here and first time posting. I had it along with 5 of my friends. We all went on a trip and all caught it at the same time. I tested positive and then they all tested positive a week later. Nobody had any major problems. I had a fever for a day and a half then some chest pain. The absolute worst part is that it knocked out my taste and smell. I like to eat so that sucked. Some of my friends didn't have any symptoms and some similar to mine. Truly not a big deal for us. I know others haven't had the same luck as us though.

I had it but don’t feel the need to post it on social media.

It sucked pretty bad. Sickest I have been maybe ever. Stayed in bed 70 of 72 hours for a stretch.

Still statistically shocking how manY people on this single website know somebody

If I posted a thread “how many people know someone who had a .02% chance of this happening etc”, I feel it would be so rare for someone to chime in

The OP asked if you knew anyone who had the virus NOT anyone who died from the virus. And, considering the thread title, you would assume the replies would come from people that knew someone that had gotten the virus. There isn't 5000 replies. It's only maybe 15 at the time of your post. What's so statistically shocking about that?

Glad you're ok GeauxBroke

My sister in law's Sunday School teacher fought it for weeks and passed. He was 66 and a little overweight if it matters.

Pretty mixed results which sounds like what to expect. It affects people different

Nothing which is why I am still laughing at him saying "I work with numbers for a living"..

He also needs to account for the fact not everyone on the site is from Louisiana. HC responded, she lives in Tennessee. I am sure there are others who responded not from Louisiana. And if someone is from Louisiana, that doesn't mean they don't know people from other places.

Someone might live in Louisiana and have family in NYC.

Not to mention the probability that some posters know the same people.
