Perhaps Im the odd one but as a male I dont recall ever taking any trips or being asked to go on any trips out out of town, alone, with my mother after I became teenager. Not that there is anything wrong with that ..I just never did.

If this was like big trips or something you both have mutual interest in, i'd be a little more sympathetic that she wouldn't be trying to find alternative times that I would be available to go.
However, its not sounding like it is that big of a trip, just wants to go somewhere for the weekend or something, semi-spur of the moment. Whats the big deal? You aren't available and she takes y'alls kid with her. They get to bond.
