not 100% sure of my math here, but if your policy was fully adhered to, wouldn't the last wedding on Earth have infinity bridesmaids?

Yeah, I was in a wedding where one of the groomsmen was getting married the very next month, and then he didn't have him as a groomsman in his wedding. It's not that unusual.

Maybe your wife has gotten fatter and Ahmed the tent maker isn't available to make her a dress.

So there have been 8 pages of people telling you that you and your wife are completely wrong. No one has agreed with her reaction or your solution to just not go.

Yet you’re still trying to convince everyone that you’re idea makes sense, even though you came here for advice about it.

Classic example of someone coming to the OT for validation under the guise of asking for advice.

Jesus Christ baw. Have you ever gone back and added up how much money you’ve spent over the years on being a groomsman?

So your wife doesn’t want to attend the wedding of a friend she thought enough of to ask to stand in her wedding because she didn’t get asked to stand in the friends wedding? What a silly issue to have.

My wife and I had 21 people in our wedding party. I’ve not stood in the weddings of all my groomsmen, and my wife has not stood in the weddings of all her bridesmaids. We still went to the weddings and had a good time.

Ironically as it sounds as Im getting married in a few months. This is why I hate weddings. Overly expensive to show off and gloat, while usually being filled with some form of pettiness and drama. You can never please everyone, because I'm like 99% sure, at every wedding ever. There was someone who was offended or their feelings got hurt, for whatever reason.

Just because someone was not in your wedding party, does not mean they're not friends. While it is a great gesture to have someone be a groomsmen/bridesmaid, you are under no obligation to do the same.

Why tf can't you tell your wife to be a true friend and support her friend during this time. Not be a petty bitch.

I do think you worded the original post poorly. What in fact is hurting your wife is that she feels her friend does not value her friendship as much as she does. Honestly, if she wanted your wife in the wedding, then she would be.
Sometimes in life others don’t appreciate us as we feel they should. The options are for your wife to discuss it with her and maybe there’s a logical reason or to act accordingly. Your wife knows where she stands now and can continue the friendship, but realize they just aren’t as close as she thought they were. Should she go to the wedding? If your wife still values the friendship and is able to go, she should go. Seems like that’s what she is going to do. Good for her.
The answer to your original question is that a solid response? Your advice to not go seems petty. Plenty of couples have people in their weddings, but are not in their bridal party’s weddings. It happens very often.

I find it amusing that this thread, on a message board consisting of 98 percent males, is now up to eight pages!

didn't read through all of this, but just reading the OP, we don't know that the wife is even giving this a second thought, who knows what? maybe the bridesmaid is some one that she became close with that lives nearby? maybe gave the new bride a kidney? OP sounds like he would be an insufferable bitch to be around

who the F cares? Now she doesn't have to wear an ugly dress, spend her time worrying about whether the bride gets too wasted, or bangs a groomsman in a closet. She gets to have fun and not blow money on someone elses wedding. Seems like a win-win.

Not going is petty. There can be plenty of legitimate reasons your wife isn't a bridesmaid.
