My spouse was invited to the wedding (14 hours away) but not made a bridesmaid even though the same girl was my wife’s bridesmaid. I told my wife to not even show up. Is that a solid response? I’ve never not been a groomsman for the groomsman in my wedding party.

Is this for real?

This is fricking stupid. You must be very young if this is what you choose to worry about.

You’re caring wrong. Also, your wife is a matron, not a maid

Go enjoy your free meal and hopefully open bar. Get drunk, dance, and have fun. End of story.

How terrible! Your wife is now a past friend of someone with new friends while you are still stuck in a very limited rut of guys who never venture outside their bubble. And you wanna whine about someone growing and enlarging their life adding in new people who care enough to participate in a major life event.

Stay home and pout while the participants continue to grow and enjoy a good time mingling with people.

Women get hurt easily over this stuff. I get it. Will come off as petty not going if they are still friends at all. Sometimes after people get married they have different interests than they used to have with single friends and they move apart. Perhaps this is what happened with her and your wife. Most importantly... let your wife decide. Don't interject yourself into this. I get where you are coming from but really it should be left up to her whether you like her decision or not. Those are/were her friends at the end of the day.

Thank you, great advice. We’ll probably use that night to go to cold stone and share a bowl of ice cream

1) What age range are you in and how long ago was your wedding?? That may explain a lot -- perhaps the bride doesn't consider your wife a close friend anymore? Distance can do that you know.

2) People have budgets and can't perhaps afford all of the meals/lodging/gifts/etc that come with being a bride so they keep the wedding party small

3) Perhaps the bride is trying to save your wife some money especially if there are many parties that your wife would feel obligated to travel 14 hours for numerous times.

4) What is their relationship? Childhood friends? Did your wife feel obligated to have her as an extra to match the number of groomsmen you had???

5) Maybe the new bride is being considerate of costs and whatnot for those who have to travel great distances

6) I'm a woman and know how petty women can be --- but like others said just go, assuming you guys will be invited and celebrate.

It isn’t a trade. They don’t live near each other. She may have a small wedding party.

And chances are OP is making a bigger deal of this than the wife.

So petty.
