When I was younger and marrying to start a family it would absolutely be a dealbreaker.
Now that I'm older and not interested in having more children, I don't really care. I also don't really see the point in getting a government marriage again either though. Have a ceremony, call each other husband/wife if we want, but no need to get the courthouse and IRS involved.

My wife is doing it now, and processing all the applications with SS office, DMV, bank, etc. is supposed to take 2-3 months.
Where are y’all getting 2-3 months from? We live in LA the home of the biggest retard bureaucrats in the US and it took my wife two days to get her stuff changed

Waiting until the last minute to have that discussion is the bigger issue. If the desire to keep your last name is important, than that discussion should be had shortly after the engagement not right before the wedding where it would seem like a strong arm tactic to get what you want. This seems a pretty big indicator of how the person will handle tough situations.

It’s mostly because you have to go to each place in sequence and they have to mail you the verifications etc. in sequence before you go to the next place.

Skimmed the thread pretty quick, but reserving judgement. Your last name isn’t Hogs is it?

Negative. I’m also hearing all this second hand, so could for sure be mistaken.

Bunch of soy boys up in here.
She’s taking my last name or she doesn’t get the stud that comes along with it.

If my wife could do it, it’s not that fricking hard

No I wouldn’t. I got married to make something MINE by putting my last name on it.

There's an Indian doctor in town who married an Irish guy. Her name was "Patel" and his was "McGriff" (I changed the names to protect privacy but the result is the same).
So, they blended their names into a new last name, "McPatel."

Let’s say she tells you a couple days before the wedding she wants to keep her own last name? Would you still marry her? And no, this isn’t a personal story…
In a vacuum that is not enough for me to call off a wedding but there is likely more there and underlying issues that anyone who is somewhat perceptive and not just burying their head in the sand should be able to see.

That alone would not be a deal breaker. I have several friends who did that for professional and business purposes. No problem with that.

My feelings exactly .
Im not a fan of religion, and im DEFINITELY not a fan of involving the government in my relationships.. all a legal marriage is, is a religious government contract.. It’s very possible to have a great committed relationship without that religious government contract, matter of fact id say if you look at the divorce rate, it kinda proves that point .

Woke SIL did not take her husbands last name. She’s not famous, a doctor, lawyer, or business owner. Just believes in female superiority.
