Sounds like his wife needs to go look for a real job that provides health insurance. Do the pottery stuff as a side job / weekend hobby.

No, IT business owner could be legit.

If it was HGTV he'd be a bespoke artisan salamander farmer.

And the budget would be $5million.

Stupid lie, and it sound like you've never had the pleasure...

We got an insane bill after our first. I had made absolutely sure our hospital was in network. Big bill was for an out of network nurse that came in while obgyn delivered. That nurse was out of network... So even though I screened what I know about, they expect the dad to be a bouncer and check insurance viability for every person an "in-network hospital" sends into our room?!

So broken.

That’s horse shite. One the bigger problems is how intentionally misleading and untransparent hospitals are with what everything costs

That is a big problem, but the biggest problem is those of us who pay must cover all of those who do not pay.

If it is an individual plan, it is most likely an ACA plan.

The only other option is a what is called a short term plan. To get a short term you need to qualify by having what is called a "life changing event".

My point in replying to you was the high deductible catastrophic plans that were available pre ACA no longer exist.

Same thing happened to us. Daughter was in the hospital for 7 days with RSV when she was two. Hospital was in-network, Dr was not. We got a $12,000 bill for just the Dr when all was said and done.
It’s a known issue and something the hospital should notify you of. But they don’t

Yep-exactly my thoughts. Some problems can solve themselves.

If she works at Walmart, group PPO for family is $227 a month biweekly.

Seems these people are idiots.

Give up the pottery and get to work.

Slight digression. Isn't the issue with WM that they only offer that to full time employees, and they make getting a full time job there hard? That's how it used to be, but I'm asking if that's changed.

Get rid of penalties for no insurance and let hospitals come up with cash-only systems/buildings separate from the rest and keep them immune from government mandates that say you have to treat everyone that walks in the door regardless if they're paying or not.

Prices at that hospital would probably be 25% of what the normal bill at a present day hospital would be because you don't have to pay for all of the non-paying/insurance/government nonsense.

Yes, the entire system is corrupt and inefficient, top to bottom. Time to kick the plug out of the wall. Step 1 is getting the feds out of the healthcare business. No idea how to get around the entitlement programs, but step 1 is deregulation for private citizens. I favor a model that works like car insurance. Pay for routine shite out of pocket and file claims only when catastrophic things happen.

But this system is cooked and needs to collapse. The sooner that happens, the sooner we can find something better. Will probably take a decade or more to sort out.

I hear what you're saying, but $110k a year should be plenty of money for a couple in the U.S. to live off of and not feel destitute. Their mortgage is very small, so it's not likely they're living like ballers and just don't want to pay. That is an astronomical jump in a healthcare premium.

Not to mention nearly a quarter of our citizens are on Medicaid while this guy is over here trying to operate his own IT business and be self-sufficient.

Two c-sections, 7k a pop. The most insane thing was the hospital wanted us to pay up front because of their own cash flow issues. I asked if they would knock a little off for pre-paying. They said no, so we stuck with the 6 month payment plan

Enough alone to make me not want a 3rd
