That picture of San Antonio is looks very nice. Not having super tall skyscrapers doesn't mean it doesn't look nice.

Yeah, San Antonio's is sort of an interesting time capsule of a place that used to be a much more significant city than it now is. New Orleans is sort of the same way, but had a late 70s-80s building boom thrown in.

St. Louis' downtown is really lame and sort of a sad victim of a late 60s "urban renewal" movement. The Arch is just sort of silly, I think, too.

I always thought the old riverfront cities like Pittsburgh and Cincinnati had beautiful downtowns.

I don't mean to be argumentative, but I must ask what the criteria is for a good skyline.

Something that isn’t ugly

Buildings are tall, doesn’t have to be sleek modern glass but older stuff taken good care of

Basically as few 70s brutalist architecture as possible

San Jose and Phoenix have airports nearby so their skylines won't be that tall/impressive for what their population is...

Worst for it's size: Fresno (metro pop. 994,000)

Underrated: Clayton, MO if we're counting suburbs

If not, Grand Rapids, MI

Not a small city by any means, but for the 20th-ranked city in the nation as far as population, Charlotte is pretty impressive.

This was aided by the old founders of Bank of America and Wachovia getting in a dick measuring contest. Lead to Charlotte having 4 buildings over 600 feet.

As a comparison Austin and Nashville have 2, combined currently completed (and I like both those skylines)

Other than Chicago, almost all of the heartland ones are pretty bland and boring. KC, St Louis, Milwaukee, Cincy, Oklahoma City, and if not for the mountains in the background I'd put Denver in there as well. I do like Mineeapolis's though. Phoenix's is pretty bad as well.

Did OKC build that one tall one to be taller than the ones in, say Dallas?
Because at the time Charlotte looked like that when they built one that had to be taller than anything in Atlanta

I'm pretty sure it was originally planned to be taller than Dallas' tallest, but it was shortened before construction.

Would be ok except for this monstrosity

Pittsburgh Skyline is awesome. The entire downtown area is incredibly under rated. Great sports town as well. Just sucks it only gets 60 sunny days a year.

Take the incline up to Mt Washington and take in the sights at one of the resturants over looking the city

Your pick for one of the worst is San Antonio? OP sucking really the off the bat. It has many different styles, a blend of old and new, and is colorful to boot. You want taller buildings or what?

That’s really dense for a city the size of Pittsburgh

For a small city, I think our's is fairly nice. And for the record I've always called Columbia a town. But comparing ours to some of these bigger cities, they should be ashamed.

Yes I realize it's a collage pic. Deal with it.

Detroit is a total shithole with almost every tall building empty.
