Somewhat inspired by TulaneLSU’s thread

In order to not get bogged down by ridiculous posts I’m going to set some rules. At first I was considering 500k population minimum but then realized that would exclude some interesting cities like New Orleans, but at the same time I don’t want bullshite answers like Jackson MS or Lubbock.

So here are the rules as of now:

1. Must have a metro population of at least 1 million
2. I don’t care about excuses, like proximity to airports. That is a crutch.

Those are the only rules. I’ll consider arguments for other criteria.

Next, this thread can be subjective in some ways. For example, some cities might not necessarily have the outright worst skyline, but more so something very underwhelming for a city of its size.

Be sure to include pictures of your choice(s)

Here is mine:

San Jose, CA
Population (city only): 1,030,119 (2018 estimate), making it the 10th most populous city in the country

I’m sorry, but for a city of that size that is just embarrassing.

Honorable mention:

San Antonio,TX
Population (city only): 1,532,233 (2018 estimate), making it the 7th most populous city in the country

I imagine this will piss some people off. I’ve been to San Antonio and think it’s fantastic. Clean, great food, lots of history, etc. But here’s the deal, it is a major letdown for a city so huge.

Bonus: If you want to, post a really under the radar skyline you would consider good for a city too small for the thread criteria. For instance, I’ve always thought Little Rock, AR was impressive for a city as small as it is.

Look forward to your answers

New Orleans for sure. One of the most prominent buildings has been abandoned for years until the four seasons started revamping it and the rest are just other hotels.

For the second-largest city in the nation, LA's skyline is pretty lame.

Jacksonville is pretty meh for a city of its size.

I think Baton Rouge barely doesn’t make the 1 million metro criteria, bub

They've got a great bathroom ventilation system for hot boxing.

This is true.

I would assert San Jose is really more of a sprawling suburb than a traditional "city" in it's own right - as much as I understand it may try to be otherwise.

Memphis is significantly worse than New Orleans. The tallest building in the city is abandoned (and ugly as hell), and several other prominent buildings are vacant

Tampa is not that great of a skyline for being a big city with over 2.5 million people metro area population

Agreed I’ve always felt the same

I think Chicago is far and away the best but that should be a common agreement
