Not a small city by any means, but for the 20th-ranked city in the nation as far as population, Charlotte is pretty impressive.

Agreed. Some of it has to do with the law they had in place where the buildings all had to have helipads on top so no spires and also because it’s just so spread out

That picture of San Antonio is looks very nice. Not having super tall skyscrapers doesn't mean it doesn't look nice.

You pointed out the main issue with San Antonio. 7th largest city in the country...181st in per capita income, just eeking out against freaking Gainesville Florida. Link
The city is a liberal sanctuary (and illegal sanctuary). Government monopoly of utilities, Section 8, welfare, diversity/gentrification hearings, highest domestic abuse % in the country. The local government literally props up the low income/section 8 neighborhoods so that they can't get bought up by developers (Pearl Brewery Area).
The skyline is made up of old hotels and banks, which are pretty much the only industries left in town other than insurance (USAA).

Orlando is pretty meh. All of the Florida cities (except Miami) have small skylines.

Phoenix and Memphis'. Their skylines are slightly more impressive than Baton Rouge's.
