I’ve never had a cubicle job and probably wouldn’t like it. Having said that, if you are making $85k, $15k more per year seems substantial. I’d take more money for less work if everything else but the office setup is equal.

Take the monotonous, higher paying job and spend your time developing skills that will get your more money and more interesting work.
Sounds like a no-brainer.

Cubicle for more money. It's also likely that with an office job comes some HR responsibilities

Meh. Earbuds are a pretty good equalizer.
Plus my ultimate goal was always remote, so for me it would have been counterproductive to advocate for an office

I've never not had a private office.
I can't imagine the anxiety it would give me to 1) not have a door and 2) have my back to an open hallway
The lack of anxiety seems like it would be worth the $15k

Private office so I can nap and browse TD all day.

I’d take option B all day long.
I went from shared private office to “bullpen”. Not having privacy for phone calls & having the distractions of other people is not for me.
Another poster said take the money and look for a new job. This is what I did.

I would take the cubicle.
Now if the the second option was work from home, I would take the work from home, lower paying job.

Does my private office come with a hot, young, ambitious assistant?
Posted on 1/3/24 at 2:09 pm to GreatLakesTiger24
Did the cubicle/shared office thing my first 4 years and have had private office the last 25. There is no way I would ever go back to a cubicle setting. Fortunate to work because I want to rather than need to at this point so the money difference is not a factor.

Blows my mind how many people would make their day to day life significantly shittier for not that much more money.

for not that much more money

As an office baw I would 100% not take a 17% raise to move to a cube.
17% is not remotely close to enough to make 8-10 hours of every single working day noticeably shittier.

i'm a little surprised by the general response
it's office for me with zero hesitation

I went from an office to a cube for 47k more a year. The cube ain't that bad

I’ve never had to do the cube life, so maybe I’m underestimating how bad it is, but 17% annually, not just once, is substantial.

Private office.
The cubicle would lead to me making $0 at some point because I’d quit.
