I've spent most of my career in a cube. I might be the only person that's doesn't really care much.

I'm in a private office now, but it's pretty shitty. Luckily, I'm not in it very much. The nicest office I ever had was also the lowest paying job I've had.

Why is it that much shittier? What are you really doing in the office that you aren’t in a cubicle?

I don't think that a cubicle is a big deal if:
-your boss isn't a dick if he catches you perusing TD
-it's not cramped
-you like your coworkers.

The coworkers is the biggest thing. I laugh a handful of times every workday while shooting the shite with them. Losing that with a private office wouldn't be worth the added privacy.

I miss my private office. It's weird, but companies are treating private offices now as upper management only.

I am taking the money, it would be stupid not to. All they have to worry about is me getting done what I am supposed to do. But when you are at home you don't really have that problem.

Tomorrow at the grocery store I am going to tell the cashier I have a private office. I will see how much that buys me.

I've worked in offices where directors with 40 reports sit in a cube.

I would put myself in a cube if we had an office now. The ease of communication in an open setting facilitates the most efficient learning and natural competition. I'd want my people to see what I had to do all day and allow them to collaborate, commiserate, teach each other, etc. The office is a beautiful thing in a good environment.

I'll take the office. Try bending your wife/GF/mistress/hooker over your desk at lunch in a cubicle and see how long it takes for you to get handed a banker's box and an escort to the front door.
