I didn't mean that he literally jumped, but he positioned himself on the road that cars drive on in attempt to stop them from fleeing. Or do you think something else happened?

Retail theft is out of control, no doubt, and a problem that needs to be solved. And I fully believe that it is an epidemic because of people who are uncivilized and have no respect for the law.* At the same time, as a civilized person who does respect the law, I don’t think lethal force is justified solely for theft.
* and before we make it a black/white issues, every time I’m at my local watering hole, I see at least 2 and usually more white folks who come in selling meat …that are either using food stamps to buy it and resell, or who are more than likely just shoplifting it. There’s also a few who regularly come by with power tools, flashlights and other gadgets, shoes and so forth that they’re likely pilfering from

Four comments (assuming the narrative is factual):
1) I'm guessing Crump found them, not vice-versa.
2) There are agitators who have to get things started early so when the policeman is exonerated, they feel entitled to raise hell.
3) This will become BLACKS' strategy, i.e., take babies along on their crime sprees to be used as a defense against police intervention.
4) The "BLACK community" will never take responsibility for their actions.

I get your point, but that's not the case in some states. If you try to steal my $200 lawnmower off of my property, I can kill you under certain circumstances. And you cannot underestimate dealing with unpredictable subjects with murder weapons (cars) that do dumb shite. I spent my early years dealing with shithead LA cops, but perps have to obey lawful orders, "Stop!" When your kid tries to make a joke by jumping on the hood of your car, do you stop, or do you try to get to the dispensary at 30mph? It's not a Chinese woman that accidentally ran over the foot of a cop and started crying while coming to a stop and participating in the investigation.

If you are going to steal don’t take your kid
If you do steal and the cops try to stop you don’t try to run them over
If you do try to run over the cop be prepared to get shot
It’s the culcha I used to work in those stores years ago. Shoplifting was a big problem in all of those stores. I’ve seen it first hand.
