All I remember was the push to build a hub for cargo and air travel.
Think of it as a regional hub combining the New Orleans and Baton Rouge airports into one centralized airport where more cargo and passengers would support more direct flights and cargo. It would be no different than a large city like Denver building a massive airport 25 miles from downtown. I think they even wanted to centralize it with a light rail service that would have connected New Orleans and Baton Rouge, and the terminal would act as an intermodal transportation hub. Connecting light rail travelers with air and ground services. Cargo would arrive and depart via air, rail, and even ship.
Biggest downside was no one wanted to work together, too many wanted to keep their piece of the aviation pie.

When the govt acquired KSC in FLA, there was nothing there except alligators and orange groves. Although some of the groves were 'inside the fence', the farmers were allowed to continue growing and harvesting the oranges.
As far as I know, KSC has a thriving alligator population.

Maybe not the biggest but Hawker Beechcraft was supposed to move their factory and headquarters to the Baton Rouge airport from Wichita in the early 2010's. It was going to be on the same scale as Gulfstream in Savannah and employ like 3000 people.
They ended up staying in Wichita but had to do restructuring to stay in business.

I mean it's probably the biggest one though. Imagine whatever Northshore town it would've been located in being comparable in size to modern Orlando. I know this hypothetical city wouldn't be as large in comparison, since you'd presumably still have Baton Rouge and New Orleans at about the same size as our real life, but you would've ended up with a much more populated metro region of Louisiana.

It was more so the Permian and the more western GOA fields that made that happen. But also alot of oil executives just didn't like business culture of New Orleans. I'll probably get downvoted for this but having to send your kids to private school and people constantly asking you what high school you went to isn't a normal thing in the rest of the country.
My dad's boss (who was from Texas) moved their Gulf operations to Lafayette as soon as he could and a few decades later they consolidated everything to Houston.

Disney World was a pipe dream
even if Louisiana gets Disney it wouldn't have been much better than a Six Flags

There was the big supercollider project in late ‘80s or early ‘90s that Baton Rouge lost out to Austin as well.

Yes some was consolation but you said it yourself. Bad business culture, especially from local/state government, and shitty schools. That is on the state to be better at and they failed. Instead of realizing what we had, which was the US headquarters for most of the majors at one time. And working with them to keep them here you had dipshits like Moon Landreu (sp) run them out.
Hell, Shell was looking at building a campus outside of the city or on the Northshore and moving most of their people to it at one point. They explored the option twice, most recently about 20 years ago. State politicians got in the way both times.

Because even though it comes through us the money gets split between all the states. It’s a huge huge deal. Bad for the state no doubt.
